Lunch I have had occasion to stop at this particular McDonalds at lunch time twice, but won't again. Both times, the staff behind the counter was slow, bordering on incompetent. I don't stop at McDonalds because I think the food is particularly good, but for a little variety and because it is supposed to be fast.
The first time that I visited, there was a line ten people deep at the counter, and it took about 25 minutes to get up to where I could order- after the first 10 minutes, my curiousity got the better of me, so I decided to stick with it to see just how long it would take. I just dismissed it as a fluke- maybe a couple of people had called in sick.
The second time, two months later, I entered the restaurant and joined the line as the fourth from the counter. It took 10 minutes to reach the counter in order to place my order.
I don't know what the Corporate Manual says about staffing the registers at lunch time, but I'm certain that it doesn't recommend only having one of the three walk-up registers (at this particular establishment) open.
Then there's the manner of handling orders. Food appeared to be cooked to order. Once I placed my order, it took the crew seven minutes to assemble a simple chicken nuggets and fries order. Watching what was going on behind the counter, it struck me that they were overwhelmed by the eight or so people now standing in line. The drive-up window didn't seem overly busy- the line of cars hadn't begun to wrap around the building as it does at other outlets. Maybe the locals know better than to bother stopping here at lunch time?
At least they got my order right.
My advice: Half a mile away on Southfield Road is an extremely competent Wendy's. You'll be in and out in less time than it takes for the bunch here to take your order. Or, if you MUST dine at McDonald's, take the extra 10 minutes and drive up to the McDonalds on Michigan Avenue near Greenfield in Dearborn. They know how to run a fast food joint. And even with the extra drive you'll be in and out faster than this place. [09 Dec 2005 07:35:02]
