A Delightful Find! My husband and I had breakfast at Chef John's two days in a row during our recent 3-day visit to Ludington. When you first walk in, your nose is in for a treat when the scents of the bakery hit it. As your eyes look around they will see a dozen or so tables of different sizes, all with different tablecloths, all with different chairs, all with unique salt & pepper sets. Look at the floor, it was painstakingly hand-painted to look like stones in a circular pattern. One wall is covered in maps of different countries. Another wall has paintings (some for sale).
The waitresses are very friendly. We had Rhonda both mornings and she was happy to explain their different breakfast items to us. So many unique things including eggs nested, eggs chipotle, eggs roulade, and many more. We just wish we would have had more days so we could have tried everything on the menu! What we had was delicious, and served up on old-fashioned mis-matched china plates, even the coffee mugs were all different and unique. Their homemade breads are wonderful (we bought a loaf of the Apple Harvest one morning, and the Multigrain the next), as was the Peach Danish we could not resist purchasing either!
The second morning we talked to Rhonda about their lunch menu, but sadly we were going home that day so wouldn't be able to come back. She brought out samples of three of their homemade soups for us to taste, and we ended up buying containers of chicken noodle (made with homemade noodles) and dill havarti to bring home with us. Oh, don't forget to check out the rest rooms. They are unisex and each one decorated differently.
Chef John and his staff take pride in their bakery and cafe and it shows, in the delightful decor and the delicious food they prepare and serve. We can't wait for another trip to Ludington just so we can go back there!!! [13 Sep 2006 12:06:48]

I LOVE Chef John's I was visiting family in Ludington when we ate breakfast at Chef John's. I loved it!!! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the waiters are sweet and helpful.
When we ate there, they were short a chef that particular morning, so it took a little longer than usual to get our food, but we didn't complain-it was worth the wait!!! In fact, they felt bad for making us wait, so they gave us half a dozen of their fresh baked cinnamon rolls (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) to take home free!!!! [03 Aug 2007 17:30:47]
