Looking for Emilio's? Oye Amigos is the next generation! Former fans of Emilio's in Battle Creek who have been searching for the next generation - it is Oye Amigos. Although in existence for several years, we recently heard about Oye Amigos from a co-worker who was also a fan of Emilio's. The restaurant displays pictures of Emilio as you remember him - behind the cash register wearing a white apron and big grin! There is other memorabilia and the wait staff wear blue tee shirts with Emilio's picture on the back.
But the most important part is that the recipes are Emilio's and taste almost exactly like he was there cooking for you. We ordered our usual - a cheese and onion enchilada, side of beans, side of rice and an avocado chalupa. And, of course, we couldn't wait to dive into a pile of the famous grilled tortillas drenched in butter that arrive hot and delicious with every food order. The first bite of the enchilada "gravy" (it's enchilada sauce but Emilio called it gravy and that tradition lives on as well) took us back ten years.
We arrived on a Monday evening about 6:15 p.m. (which is usually a slow time, according to the wait staff) but on this night the restaurant was packed. There was one wait staff, one bus person, one prep cook and one cook. We had to wait an hour for our food - which is VERY UNUSUAL - but definitely worth the wait!
As stated earlier, the restaurant has Emilio memorabilia and a little bit of charm, but as far as cleanliness - it was just okay. However, for those of us who frequented the original Emilio's this restaurant could be listed in Better Homes and Gardens if you were comparing the two!
Don't miss this wonderful treat. Located on the main drag in Marshall, a few blocks past the rotary, next to the Shell Station. [01 Feb 2005 16:49:28]

A Longtime Emilio Fan
A life-long fan I am 16 years old. When my mother was pregnant with me, she and my father went to Emillio's all the time. When I was old enough for solid food, I loved Emillio's. To this day, for 16 years, I've loved Oye Amigos. The best part about it is the tortillas and butter. That's heaven in a red dish. [19 Apr 2005 13:58:02]

Another life-long customer I started on the beans at about age two at Emillio's and gradually worked my way up to the cheese and onion enchilada, now at age 24 at Oye Amigo's. I absolutely love the food there and there is no comparing it to any other Mexican restaurant anywhere else in the world. [26 Jul 2005 00:26:15]

Worst Restaurant In History Oye Amisgo's is dirty (crusty dishes and sides) and disgusting (buttery tortillas). My waitress smoked at the table next to me, even through I was placed in the "non-smoking" section. Awful food, please, spare yourself. [16 Oct 2006 07:09:40]

Worth the drive Grew up in Battle Creek and loved Emilios. I now live in Owosso and look for any excuse to get to Marshall to eat there. I wish I could duplicate the recipes at home. I highly recommend the "swamp Sauce" (as I call it) Jalepeno sauce for the food. I've never found anything else like it. [24 Oct 2006 22:27:44]

The Best in the Region I loved Emilio's with the "Girl Dishwasher" sign in the window. Emilio used to have a sign behind the counter titled "Checks that Bounce Back" with the names of the deadbeats... too funny.
Oye Amigos is the same great food as Emilio's.
The Avocado Chalupas are wonderful. I get the tortillias with the butter on the side and then apply only a dab to each tortillia... that way they are not swimming in butter. [20 Dec 2006 11:52:23]

GOOD FOOD....REAL FOOD!! My husband and I have been going to OYE AMIGOS for about 10 years. The food is always good. My husband loves the gravy. (I can't eat it because I am a wimp!) He says the gravy should be in it's own food group! If you want real mexican food, go to OYE AMIGOS. The buttered tortillas are making my mouth water as I type!! [21 Feb 2007 09:58:27]

I love this place! we go there a couple of times a month, and the waiters know what we want when we walk in! Everyone is very friendly, and we are usually in and out with in a half hour. Amazing food, and not expensive at all. Definately my favorite place to eat, hands down. [05 Apr 2007 00:54:40]

THIS IS NOT MEXICAN FOOD Oye Amigos is by far the worst Mexican food in the world..They should not even consider the place Mexican as far as I am concerned..There is nothing Mexican about any of the foods on the menu...The butter tortilla, the jalapenos, evrything is plain nasty and dirty and expensive.
Who ever heard of a Mexican place that sells bean and rice on the side..Anyways do not go here...I went and ordered the safest thing on the menu..a cheese enchilada and that was nasty..How can you mess up a cheese enchilada..I dont know but Oye Amigos did.. I have one thing to say, Oye Amigos is a shame to Mexican food..and I am straight from Mexico. [23 Apr 2007 15:50:18]
