What Happened? The service was never anything special but, man, was the food good (not anymore).
The food is lousy to go along with slow unpredictable service. I will not spend any more of my money here. [07 Jul 2005 18:17:43]

Sweet This place is a wonderful place to go to with family and friends on a nice summer day. You can enjoy the fresh surrounding water. The food is great, also.

Maybe another chance to try it? Like virtually all of my reviews, I'm going start by saying: My wife and I went here about a week ago. The Thai place we'd been looking forward to was closed on Sundays, and we'd already gone to BW3's the day before. "How about that place on the river?" my wife asked me. "Sure," I thought, "it's about time."
Atmosphere: the patio seating is fantastic. I really had no idea that the nasty Clinton River was so beautiful in that part of town. The woods on the far side of the river really makes the setting kind of rustic. The inside (where we didn't linger) had a townie-bar type of feel to it. The trip into the restaurant from outside passes right in front of the live music -- I don't know that there's always live music, but there was that day. The band was playing, meaning that we had to shout at the hostess to make our seating preferences understood. Not a complaint, mind you; just saying, is all. I'll give it four stars for the type of restaurant that it is.
Service: nothing special; the waitress was attentive, and I always had a beer upon request. I'll give it four stars, but only because that's what fits ChefMoz's description. Really, though, three stars is "average" and that's what this was.
Beer: nothing on tap, but that's okay. They had Blue, so we were both happy.
Food: maybe we made mistakes here, but it was totally unsatisfying. Upon entering the patio I saw two tables with crocks of French onion soup, despite being a warm, sunny day. I love French onion soup, as does my wife. Pouring over the menu, though, I'd decided on a steak, so decided to forego the soup myself. My wife, though ordered the soup to be brought with my salad (included with the steak). I tasted the soup, and was immediately disappointed with its blandness and lack of flavor. There are much, much better French onion soups out there. My wife ordered the shrimp coctail appetizer as her meal. They were jumbo shrimp, maybe about eight to 12 of them. I don't eat seafood myself, but my wife said they were "okay" but nothing special.
For my part, the steak was their "Delmonico" cut, which in our part of the country is supposed to be a good ribeye. Not just any old ribeye, but a good ribeye. I ordered it rare, and I must give my compliments to the chef for *trusting* me and actually preparing it that way. It was prepared over a flame, and it looked like a truly beautiful piece of meat. It had some type of semisweet glaze that I was totally unprepared for -- why ruin a steak? The thing is, though, that the glaze was the only thing that had flavor. I don't understand what went wrong; the chef prepared the thing to perfection, but it was completely and utterly tasteless. I'm going to guess that the owner or buyer or maybe even the same chef doesn't understand that you can't buy the budget cuts of meat. My disappointment was all the worse because it looked so damn appetizing.
As long as I'm talking about the low quality, I suppose I've got to address the dinner rolls. Bread is one of those staples of life that can be amazing. These things, though, were like Wonder bread: tasteless. Given the total disappointment in both of our platters, I'm going to have to give a below average rating of one single star here.
Sorry, Captain's Landing. Given the ambience and the decent service, though, I'm willing to try again. Maybe we made a mistake by not ordering the normal bar fare? [11 Aug 2006 14:12:13]
