Description
bd's Mongolian Barbeque is a local favorite. Starting off in 1992 at their Royal Oak location bd's has added many locations in Michigan and beyond. You select your meat and vegetables from their large bar area and then take them to the grill area where your meal is prepared just for you on a 7' grill.

Poor Service and the Food Was Burnt Eight of us visited your restaurant on Sunday. We were excited as the restaurant is new to our area. My to our dismay the service was poor. Our drink order was not at the table by the time our food was prepared -- about 20 minutes. The waitress' performance went downfill from there. In fact, a waiter and one of the managers ended up taking care of us for the rest of our meal.
Several of us had our food burnt and others' meals contained burnt chips from the grill. What a disastrous evening. The concept is great and this type of restaurant could make a go of it in our area. If things don't improve very, very, very soon the company leaders had beter prepare for bankruptcy. Competition is tough in our area and diners do not tolerate poor service and burnt food.
I truly like Mongolian barbeque but am uncertain if we will return. I have eaten Mongolian in a number of Chinese restaurants and never had my food burnt. Likely the grill was not cleaned properly or the fire was too hot.... [19 Nov 2001 09:13:51]

I enjoyed it. It is Valentine's Day. And my wife and I have not been to a Mongolian Barbeque in over a year. It was very enjoyable. Even though there was a long line we got in under the expected time. The food was on-par with our previous experiences. Our waitress kept the drinks (Coke) flowing. And, as usual, the cooks were funny, enthusiastic, friendly. I think every cook ended up asking how I was doing. What I love most about Mongolian Barbeque was that I get to create my own dinner. As far as ambiance goes, it is normal for a M.B. but it is definitely a little lively for a normal "sit-down" restaurant (you do have to get up to get your food picked out and cooked). I will definitely go back again. [14 Feb 2002 21:49:46]

Very POOR WAITER I was in the restaurant on Thursday May 8th around 2:30pm. We had nine women who just came from shopping at the Novi Expo Center. We visit this place every year. I will say I will never come back. I'm a District Manager in the retail world and really know customer service. Our waiter was very rude. My List of Complaints: 1. First said we all could not sit together, we moved the tables together ourself. 2. Never asked if the check was together or separate. 3. Had to ask for silverware 4. Forgot our lemon twice 5. When we asked for our bill and we told him we were all paying separate he said he will not get these ladies another damn thing. We sat right by the little room behind the bar that they go into to do our bills and I heard everything. I was also upset that he did not inform us that the tip was included in our bill and mine was folded so I could not see the tip. He also assumed that I was not to receive any change and was very rude when I asked for it. My tip on my bill was three dollars which was not the problem but my change was ten dollars and there was no way I would have left him ten dollars for the non service I received. Delicious and great concept I thought it was an ingenious concept. How can you possibly be picky about food that you get to create yourself? You even get to see the hot cooks as they cook it. [18 May 2003 17:33:42]

Not a smile in the place I was there on a Thursday evening, but where were the smiles and the cozy feeling of warmth? It wasn't there! The food was great, fresh and wonderful. I have been to many BD's in the Metro Detroit area, but I have never seen such unhappy people. Normally you would hear the grillers working with the crowd of people gettting them to laugh and such while the waitress/waiters had smiles and would make jokes. The Novi BD's didn't have none of that. I was going ask why is there not a place in Canton (where every restaurant is packed)I think that Canton would love to have a BD's there but please, if this happens.. don't send the workers form Novi.
