Restaurant offers taste of Mexico - Oakland Press , By LARA MOSSA, 26 December 2005; Meaning "real house," Casa Real is an authentic Mexican restaurant. Owners Alberto Pimentel and Betty Diaz opened it in the space left vacant when Third Wave Seafood closed in March (2005). The 10,700-square-foot restaurant is on the west side of Washington Street. Besides the main dining room, the restaurant has a bar and a room upstairs for private parties. Pimentel and Diaz spent two months remodeling the restaurant before opening it Dec. 2, 2005. It has been revamped with bright colors and Mexican decor, including framed pictures that refl ect Mexican culture and history. A mural spans the wall between the dining room and bar. - suggest change

Good find when out of town
We have many Mexican places around the area I live in, but this one was different. It had a nice bar area and the decoration was very authentic.

The food selection was good. Very similar to other places. Could use a little more authentic - home style dishes. The "Molcajete" is one we really enjoyed. They serve a mean margarita.

It was nice be taken care of by the actual owners. Betty, one of the owners really made us feel at home by giving us personal attention and taking the time as this is a busy joint, which made up for other minor dislikes with the hostess' and other people on the wait staff. It is good to have authentic staff, but it is good to be able to have people to explain to us in English any questions we had.

They have live entertainment and dancing, which is a nice touch.    [04 Jun 2006 18:53:39]

Favorite Mexican Resturant
When our previous favorite Mexican resturant burned down, we really missed it. Then we discovered Casa Real! Now that our old favorite was rebuilt, we find that we usually pass right by it on our way to Casa Real. Although I have yet to try them, many friends say that their margaritas are the best.

The atmosphere is comfortable and casual and there has never been a long wait when we have been there. All of the people that I have recommended to go there now go frequently.

I enjoy the strolling musicians and look forward to going for the salsa dancing.    [11 Apr 2007 17:58:15]
