Just a customer... I liked this place when it was Shelly's Chicken...and I liked Crawfords when it was in Northville...but the transplantation to Plymouth just doesn't seem to take.
The building is cramped, VERY cramped. It's dirty and grimy and not very well built in the first place. The menu strives to be something more than the take-away sandwich shop it inhabits, but the griminess of the decor and the cheek-to-jowl closeness of the seats detract from the dining experience. There's nothing WRONG with being takeaway, if that's what your building is built for. But when you want to shoehorn sit-down dining into a take away locale, it's a hard sell.
My biggest complaint is that Crawfords seems to be trying to out-do all their neighbors in all things, and failing miserably. The bakeries downtown have better baked goods, Cassel's does a better job with the vegetarian dishes, the Caboose does a better job with sandwiches, the Greek place does a better breakfast...Herman's and Station 885 have liquor licenses. So what exactly does Crawfords stand for?
It's certainly not the salad dressings, trumpeted as 'housemade' and really purchased elswhere. It's not the ice berg lettuce, trumpeted as 'organic' and it's not the tired, insipid menu choices...
The jury is still out. [19 May 2007 16:53:35]

love it, just like we loved it in Northville many years ago! Do wish they were open on Sundays for breakfast though- that seems to be when we always want to go! [24 Jan 2008 09:10:53]

Good Food I enjoy Crawfords, especially the salads which are of substantial size. [07 Aug 2008 11:21:35]
