History states the pasty is a Cornish (Cornwall, England) family recipe tracing back to Henry the VIII. The food was brought to the U.S.A. by copper and iron miners from Cornwall , England (Cousin Jacks) who warmed the pasty on a shovel warmed by a small flame. The meat and vegetable stew-filled pasty provided all the nourishment required even at the great depths of the mines.
