WOW! Amazing restaurant, the ambiance, food and service were great. They thought of everything... outside bar, great TVs (even in the men's room). Great staff. [09 Sep 2006 10:33:14]

Open kitchen? TERRIBLE waitstaff Overall the restaurant was quite a disappointment. We were seated directly in front of the window looking into the kitchen. NOT a good experience, kitchen staff was most disappointing. All fooling around and not focusing on tasks at hand. Our waitress was absolutely AWFUL. Rude, inconsiderate, extremely obnoxious. Was too busy talking to the cooks in back, we COULD see her. TERRIBLE. WILL not be back because of her. [21 Sep 2006 23:22:55]

Awful Food! My dinner consisted of the worst food I have ever had in a restaurant at any price. The place looked nice and the service was OK, but the food was disgusting. [09 Oct 2006 17:20:37]

Wonderful experience The charm, location and friendliness of Reds on the River were wonderful. And the steak was as good as I've had in Michigan, or elsewhere for that matter. Great ambience, waitstaff and overall experience. Best wine list in Grand Rapids. I would highly recommend Reds to anyone. [10 Oct 2006 14:49:10]

Rockford needed this! This review is in response to two things. The first is the overwhelming excellence of Red's in general and the second is the overwhelming negativity of the posts here (2 out of 3).
My wife and I have been to Reds several times now. The first was during a preview event. Even then the service was excellent and the food fantastic. In fact we have recognized several waitstaff members that we have known from other restaurants who have moved to Reds. In each case they were the cream of the crop. We have not sat at the bar yet, so we have no reference for the bar staff, but the dining room staff are excellent.
On to the food. On balance it is excellent. The entrees and appetizers have been great. The Tuna and the Hushpuppies are at the top of our list. Also highly notable is the baked goat cheese. There has been some inconsistency in the quality of the crostinis that accompany the goat cheese, but nothing that makes them less appealing or inedible.
The steaks are the best that we have had at any steakhouse in the area. If you like the “Ruth’s Chris” style of steak service you will love the steak. If you don’t, then try one of the other excellent entrees. The one real down note to the food is the Caesar Salad. It has to be the worst Caesar Salad that I have had (IMHO). Perhaps it will be more up other peoples' alley. I just don’t find the thin dressing and shredded greens to be appropriate to a Caesar Salad.
On to the wine. The selection is excellent, broad, and we have not yet had a bottle that disappoints. In fact they turned us onto several wines that we have not found at any other establishment in the area. We have found that each of the waitstaff assigned to us have been very knowledgeable on the wines in the cellar as well as wines in general. If the questioning has gone beyond their scope, both the General Manager and the Assistant Manager are very knowledgeable in wine and have overseen the stocking of the cellar so they are able to step in and assist.
On balance this in an excellent restaurant that deserves all the traffic that they can handle. This is an excellent addition to Rockford, and an excellent dining experience. (Can I say excellent again?) [18 Oct 2006 20:03:16]

Second time a disappointment! Upon stopping for a quick bowl of their wonderful seafood chowder with the wonderful flaky pastry on top, I was met by three very unwelcoming people at the host stand. "Can we help you?" is how I was greeted. Next came a statement of "Do you want to sit at the bar or do you want a table?"
The unwelcoming staff left me very disappointed since our first visit was absolutely the best. What has happened to the caring personal people? Was it the fact that I was a dining alone resulting in less of a tip? Since it was late afternoon, 5:00, they were not busy. I sure hope they go back to caring about each and every person that graces their beautiful new restaurant! [06 Nov 2006 12:58:52]

Excellent waitstaff!!! We've been to Reds several times and each time the wait staff has been engaging, knowledgeble and very attentive to our needs. I like that they make a point of introducing themselves and leaving their card at the table. Our last waitress even followed up with us a week later about a question we had regarding our accumulated points on the Red's Club card. We hadn't requested that she look into the problem, she just took it upon herself to make sure we were happy...that's unusual and very much appreciated.
The menu has a variety of entrees, and admittedly, a couple haven't met our expectations, but I can see that there's a real effort underway to make Reds a great place to dine. I'm sure with honest feedback from its patrons, the weak spots in the menu will be weeded out. Believe me there are a lot more winners than losers on the menu. [14 Nov 2006 14:09:32]

Quite Acceptable We have been to Reds on three occasions with only one disappointment, an overdone hamburger which management was quick to correct. Service can be a bit slow if they are busy, but they are careful and considerate staff. The wine list is excellent; the table wine is just fine and a very generous serving! Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinner. We will go again.
Do not recommend the bread pudding: too stodgy. [29 Nov 2006 18:18:53]

Great addition to Rockford I'm a foody that lived a year in NY. I wouldn't put Reds at the top of my list but they have a very nice thing going. The food is good, presentation is good, and the price is very reasonable. Many restaurants in the Midwest make you pay for presentation even knowing the quality of the food is sub par. I have been very pleased with the atmosphere and the service. I highly recommend a visit. [07 Dec 2006 16:33:09]
