Chuck's Cafe Firstly, I must mention that the most striking part of the dining experience was that the patrons, staff and owner went out of their way to greet and make comfortable myself and my traveling companion upon entrance. It was by chance that we had passed the diner and decided to stop in. However, immediately we felt very welcomed by the owner, Chuck, who is an amiable character that took over the business from his parents. This is a third generation family-run operation (his parents bought the diner from his grandparents in 1967) and there are plans that Chuck's son will inherit the diner once he retires.
Originally the Briar Hill restaurant, opening in 1949, the diner began as a 24 hour truck stop along Blue Star Hwy. Today their hours have been cut, but they are still able to draw in many loyal customers year after year, from generation to generation. All of the interior is part of the original design, dating back to the 1940's also which makes it a must see for any diner enthusiast in SW Michigan. [20 Jul 2006 13:26:55]
