Jim and Mary Lark know how to serve dinner. At their beautiful restaurant, with bright paintings, trellised terrace, and a Portuguese inflection, you're treated the way you should beāeven offered seconds, no less. - CitySearch - suggest change

No Thanks I found the waitstaff here to be snobby, and the food wasn't worth putting up with it. Unfortunately, when I walked in I got lots of dirty looks because I don't think I looked like their normal clientele, so perhaps that just got us off to a bad start. [22 Sep 2005 21:54:24]

Lark - elegant European counrty dining Like being in a country chateau in Europe with a private garden and fireplace in a cozy elegant dining room. The food and service was outstanding and the setting positively romantic. The best Detroit has to offer. [28 Jan 2007 15:40:03]

Best in Detroit- and Beyond Simply, the best. The Lark was voted the best restaurant in America by Conde Nast Traveller readers, it won the HOUR Magazine restaurant of the year twice and has more accolades than any other restaurant in the history of Detroit. While it is styled after a European Country Inn, there is nothing like the Lark anywhere- fine dining at it's finest.
Pricey, but quite a value, most dinners in the $70+ range, I have spent more and gotten way less at other restaurants. It starts with a cold appetiser cart wheeled to your table, they will serve you what you want; shrimp, oysters, tenderloin, and the famous curry duck salad. They then bring you a soup or hot appetizers, and salad. Don't overdo it, the main courses are showstoppers, if it is your first time the Gengis Kahn Rack Of Lamb is the best known dish.
Yes, the clientele does dress well (although I have heard they no longer require a tie and jacket) Call me a snob, but I don't want a slob in a wife-beater and plaid shorts sitting next to me on my anniversary or during a business deal, no matter how much money they make. And part of the charm is getting dressed up to eat. [26 May 2007 16:34:07]
