Delight with some disappointment A group of us attended a High Tea at the Victorian Times Tea House and came away with mixed feelings. The old, restored house was lovely, as were all the accoutrements--dishes, place settings, tableclothes, etc. etc. It was a visual delight.
Our waitress was very, very nice and very, very efficient--TOO efficient. She bustled in and whisked dishes away and whipped others out, making us feel rushed. Her demeanor was sweet--we're not complaining about that at all--but she didn't seem to fit with the theme, a relaxed English tea.
The tea was EXCELLENT (Lemon Solstice, I believe)--the best tea I've ever had, I think. The food presentation was also excellent and the food itself was delicious (every course!), BUT...there was WAY too much sweetness and by the time the (lovely) chocolate dessert arrived, we were somewhat sickened at the thought! I know it's a very English thing to eat a lot of sweets, but I think there could have been more savory just so that we would have physically felt better at the end!
This is a more picky thing, but just a suggestion...more of an illusion of an English garden outside would have been nice. The lawn was cut and some plantings were blooming, but a more lush feeling would have lended itself to the experience.
All in all, we're glad we came and will probably visit again. [01 Jun 2003 10:02:30]

Amazing Cake! As a bride to be, I had a grand idea for my cake. It was a tower of cupcakes topped with fresh flowers. Giving them a photo and my florist's name, they produced the most beautiful cake I've ever seen! We had countless compliments about not only the looks, but the excellent cake. The marble and lemon poppyseed cupcakes were excellent: moist, full of flavor and frosting that wasn't too sweet. Since then, I've ordered birthday and graduation cakes that have been equally wonderful! [05 Jan 2004 14:01:55]

The best tea house in MN I have visited the Victorian Times Tea House every year for my birthday and it has always been a wonderful experience. Every course is always delicious & presented beautifully. I would recommend it any time of the year. I agree with another reviewer, it would be nice to have more gardens outdoors & I have had the server that has made me feel "rushed" also. But overall, I would highly recommend it - worth the drive!
