Big Creek
Description
It's like stepping back in time when you make the short trip to Big Creek, whose rustic buildings and scattered rusty farm implements harken back to a simpler time.
The experience is no difference inside Paisley's - this is a country steakhouse. They not only serve juicy steaks, but also shrimp and crawfish. Seafood is available fried or grilled, and chicken is available as well.
This is a reincarnation of the famous "Big Creek Steakhouse", aka "The Ox-Yoke Steakhouse".
This establishment is currently cash and check only. Credit cards will be accepted in the future.

Worth the Drive - Excellent Before you read anything, please note: It is worth the drive out to this place. Trust me.
I had heard about this place - out in the middle of nowhere, no signs, no posted hours - the steaks! Everyone said they had good steaks. Then, when I finally tried to visit, I find they've closed down.
That was in January 2007. Flash forward to now, and the restaurant is having another go, this time as "Paisley's Boardwalk".
It's located in the small community of Big Creek, right outside of Calhoun City but decades from reality. This town looks like it was put on ice in the 1890's.
Inside, it's a bit more conventional steakhouse. Accouterments adorn the walls, exposed wood is everywhere and the smell of steak permeates the air.
My party opted for an appetizer on our first visit. We chose the cheese sticks. They were nothing special - I'm pretty sure they're the same ones I buy from the local megamart. They were served with a single-serve container of marinara sauce.
Each entree was served with a salad. These were regular salads, with an added touch of broccoli which we both quite enjoyed.
In short order our main courses arrived. I chose the 16oz. ribeye ($18.99) and my companion chose the 16oz. T-bone ($19.99). Each entree was served with baked potato, bread and a grilled onion.
Now, before we get to the good stuff, let's talk about the onion. It was a whole sweet onion, seasoned, wrapped in foil and grilled. Sound awful? I thought so at first, but after a nibble my outlook completely changed. My companion and I mused over this unique item and enjoyed every savory bite.
The bread and potatoes were standard fare. The potatoes came wrapped and uncut - I think they're better this way. Imitation butter and real sour cream were in single-serve packs on the table. I had some concern over the sour cream, as it plainly stated on the packs to keep refrigerated, but they were still quite cold when I opened one up. Of course we dined early, I'm not so sure it'd be safe at the end of the night.
Now, for the good stuff - the meat. Each cut was prepared exactly as ordered. My first bite was chewy and gristly - and you know what? That was the *only* bad bite on the entire steak. Every bite was exceedingly tender, exceptionally flavorful and well, just plain heaven.
My dining companion (okay, he was my father) seemed to enjoy his steak as well, quite so.
We didn't try dessert. I'm sure the cheesecake and pie are delicious, but after a whole pound of steak, well, neither of us really had any room left.
During our meal, a few musicians came in and began practicing. I'm not sure if live entertainment is a regular thing here, but if it is, it will only add to the authentic country steakhouse ambiance.
I can honestly say that this is one of the best steaks I've had since moving to Mississippi, and we will be back! [09 Jul 2007 14:09:19]

Well Worth The Drive The food at Paisleys is ALWAYS excellent. My friends LOVE THE STEAK and I LOVE the hand breaded shrimp. The baked onion is a great added touch. The DESSERTS are GREAT!!!! The caramel cake is like no other. Thanks Dale and Kim for giving us a great place to eat and feel comfortable in our jeans and t-shirts. I own the HomeTown Cafe' in Bruce and I have booked my Christmas party for my employees here and that should say it all.... [22 Oct 2007 16:59:03]
