Service was poor! I was at the resturant for 2 hours. In that 2 hours it took about 30 minutes for the appetizer, then another 20 or 30 minutes for our salads. Not pleased at all with the service. I recommened checking on food preparation more often to get your customers filtered in and out quicker. I tried to call on 3/17/04, but received no answer. I was over charged on my card. the meal was a total of $51.30 and I had made it a total of $56.00. I checked my account today and I was charged $61.56. [16 Mar 2004 17:38:19]

Steak and Seafood I enjoyed the atmosphere and food at Ragtime, as did my 9 companions. I had time to converse and socialize with my friends and time to flirt with the waitresses, who were very receptive. I had as much of a variety for appetizers and entrees as I could ask. The seafood was divine and the steaks were nothing but Choice. My compliments to the chef. [12 Apr 2005 16:28:54]

I really enjoy eating at Ragtime. Yes, there are times when they are very busy and it takes time to get your food, but its always worth the wait. As far as bad service, they have some servers that are not all that great but there are quiet a few who are very good at their jobs. [30 Jan 2006 16:53:53]

New Owners Since May of 2005 Ragtime Bar and Grill's new owners John and Dorothy Kirk have put Ragtime back on the map. Service through the week is unbeatable. Weekends tend to be a little slow but must be expected when a restaurant is full. Every dish I have had has been exceptional. [02 Feb 2006 19:27:07]

Long waits during slow weeknight visit... The only drawback, judging from both my experience and that of other reviewers, is that the service can be a little slow. It's a friendly place, though, and the food is actually pretty good.
The Flowering Onion is, well, an onion. Everyone has one. The batter is good, but ours came with batter towards the middle that wasn't fully cooked. It was a huge onion, though.
On one visit we dined on sandwiches, one fried catfish, the other ribeye. Both were quite good--the ribeye in particular was thinly sliced and fork tender, cooked as desired.
Sides of gumbo and red beans & rice were welcome changes from the usual choice of french fries or chips at most restaurants. Both choices were good, albeit unusual versions. The roux for the gumbo was slightly off tasting, though it didn't stop anyone from consuming the entire bowl.
The sweet tea was good and fresh like good southern tea should be. Strange that we transplats from Alabama have had a difficult time fiding good sweet tea, from Memphis to Jackson and everywhere in between. [21 Nov 2006 01:38:09]
