Description
The food is the highlight at Scott's Crossroads. Their building is trimmed in corrugated metal with wood trim inside, with spartan decór and plain concrete floors.
This simple eatery features a nightly seafood buffet with a selection of catfish, frog legs, shrimp several ways and several kinds of veggies.
The restaurant is located at the intersection of MS Highway 7, MS Scenic Loop Highway 33 and County Road 156 just north of town, adjacent to Scott's Crossroads gas station and grocery.

A delightful seafood buffet The buffet concept is popular in Grenada--there are at least five others in town, serving either lunch or dinner.
Seafood on the buffet is not a strange concept here, either. Despite this, Scott's Crossroads has entered the fray. I'm glad they did: The food is good enough for me to comfortably rank them among the best of dinner buffets in town.
I brought along a dining companion on this first trip. He wanted ribs, but also wanted to sample the buffet. Our server mentioned that ribs were on the buffet, so we went with that option.
Alas, she was wrong about the ribs but the buffet was a good choice anyway.
On our visit there were about nine veggie selections, a small selection of seafood, frog legs, desserts and an ample salad bar.
Of all the veggies sampled, none were disappointing. The turnip greens were a bit too finely chopped for my tastes but were very flavorful, with a little bite. The baked beans were wonderfully smoky and tangy, with bits of ground beef added for zing. The coleslaw was decidedly home-made and a great compliment to the fried seafoods on offer. The mac and cheese was a winner as well.
Like any good Mississippi seafood buffet, catfish is the main attraction, and Scott's doesn't disappoint in this area. the fillets were usually thick and meaty with a wonderful cornmeal breading that wither neither too crunchy nor too soggy. Tartar sauce is available, but these fillets don't really need it. The tartar sauce was heavy on the mayo but still imparted a nice flavor.
On this visit, there was boiled in-shell and fried shrimp. Each was good, but the fried shrimp earned high marks for their crunchy breading. Chicken fingers were on offer for those craving land-based meat, and they were noted as being tender and juicy. Frog legs, baked fish and pork chops rounded out the meats.
The thick cut pork chops were, sadly, too dry. Had they been more moist, they would have been great, thanks to what tasted like a nice seasoned dry rub.
Desserts on offer this evening were chocolate and banana puddings and cherry and peach cobblers. The banana pudding was rated as mediocre, but the peach cobbler was very good.
The salad bar looked fresh and well stocked. The sweet tea was about as good as you'll find in the south, too.
Even though this place has only been open a few months, it seems they are doing things right. The buffet was kept well stocked and the hot food was kept piping hot. The servers seemed attentive to details and accomodating.
Having passed by this location several times since its opening, I have noticed a full lot each time. On this visit, we waited about 10 minutes for a table, which is very unusual for this area.
Hopefully they will do well and prosper - Grenada needs more good places to eat like this! [18 Aug 2007 22:31:12]
