Great food, great fun! Las Margaritas has the best Mexican food in Tupelo, MS. The margaritas are to "die for". You won't get anything better in this town. Try the fajitas, they are wonderful-especially mixed with shrimp. The Sunday buffet is also very good.
The staff is great and provide a good environment. [26 Jun 2003 15:36:57]

Good food but the service is Las Margaritas has received some good reviews here on ChefMoz so I decided to try it out on a recent trip to Tupelo.
My dining partner and I were seated quickly. It took the a few minutes to bring chips, salsa and to take drink orders. We ordered our Mexican fave, queso fundido ($6).
While waiting on the fundido to arrive, we tried out the chips, salsa and habanero hot sauce. The sauce had a little bite, thanks to some black pepper sprinkled throughout. The chips were standard bagged yellow ones that were medium thickness. The hot sauce was potent! Just two capfuls set the big bowl of salsa on fire - you've been warned.
After a short wait, the waiter took our orders. Another few minutes passed before the queso was brought out. It is served sizzling in a fajita skillet with plenty of melted white cheese, chorizo sausage and several jalapeño slices. A packet of flour tortillas accompanies. Yum!
For our entrées, I chose the Burrito Margarita ($8) and my resident relleno fan (my father) chose the combination #18 (~$6): one beef taco, one beef burrito and one chile relleno.
The burrito comes with either beef or spicy chicken and I oped for the chicken. It was a good choice because it was tender and juicy; too bad it wasn't really 'spicy'. The burrito had a very tomato-y sauce over it that was somewhat plain. It was served with refried beans (whole beans are an option) and rice. The rice was dry and overcooked and all the flavor was gone.
The combination also garnered mixed results. The taco and burrito were as good as any competitor but the relleno was (as is often the case in Mississippi) a letdown. The skin of the pepper was papery, making it difficult to cut and chew. In fact, he couldn't even eat half of it.
We both opted for sweet tea and at this restaurant, it was just average. It tasted canned, to be honest.
After the food was delivered, the slow service picked up but there wasn't much in the way of personality to be found with our waiter. The place wasn't all that busy, so it is a mystery why things were kind of slow.
All in all, it's not a bad place and I'd be willing to revisit the restaurant and try some more dishes. But considering the several other Mexican restaurants Tupelo has, it seems like these folks should be trying just a little bit harder. [20 Nov 2007 22:01:56]
