The food is untouchable. I just ate at The Grove Park Inn and I sat there thinking how I would MUCH rather be at The Greenery!    [03 Nov 2003 08:31:18]

Not Up to Expectations
My wife and I had made a reservation at the Greenery well in advance of our visit there. We arrived on time and appropriately dressed. We were asked to wait while a person I assume was the proprietor went to check on a table for us. Although a prepared and empty table was in plain view, he said no table was available, and asked if we would eat in "the lounge". When we said we would wait, he said the current diners would be sitting for a long time. If was obvious that, in spite of our reservation, if we wished to dine there that evening we would be relegated to the lounge. It was a small area off the bar with booths rather than tables, and ceiling fans that insured the smoke from the bar patrons would be detectable even at the most distant booth. The food, while good, did not live up to either its price or its reputation. If you are a regular or know the management, you may enjoy the Greenery. Otherwise, my advice would be to not roll the dice with a reservation. Find a more hospitable and even-handed establishment, and you may even get a better meal in the bargain.    [25 Oct 2004 18:54:05]

I eat out a couple of times a week - in that vicinity quite often. I ate at The Greenery once to try a different restaurant and left not intending to return. Details of the experience have faded into oblivion, but I have not felt drawn to even try a second time. I do not forget a really good restaurant experience.    [20 Feb 2005 13:44:51]

My husband made reservations here for our one year anniversary. The service was great. He had called ahead and been in email contact with them ahead of time. They allowed him to have flowers delivered to the restaurant as well as us to bring in our wedding cake. I had the scallops which I feel were the best I have ever had. He ordered the ribeye. The wine list is also extensive. We will definitely return the next time we are in Asheville.    [29 May 2005 23:40:57]

A Wonderful Evening
This past Monday, December 26, 2005 was my first time at The Greenery. My finance chose the restaurant while we were in town to propose to me. He made an excellent choice in restaurants and I wasn't just dizzy from him asking me to marry him! I had the scallops and he the ribeye and both were excellent indeed. I can also say the wine selection was very good. The owners took the time to talk with us and congradulated us on just getting engaged and are wonderful people. We will be going back again next year and will be there again, THAT is how nice dining at The Greenery was for us. Highly recommended.    [30 Dec 2005 16:28:16]

Greenery revived!
The Greenery is under new management, and the service and quality that I remembered 15 years ago has returned. It really is a delightful restaurant.    [25 Jul 2006 13:03:05]

You'll end the meal hungry if you go
Husband and I just had our Christmas dinner there and it was just poor. The salad literally was romaine lettuce with a half slice of tomato- nothing else (with your choice of thousand island or ranch dressing because they were out of all the other dressings) They were out of several items including sour cream for our baked potato, mashed potatoes, several types of beers and wines and patience. All around us we could here other patrons complaining about the food, seating, lack of items available etc. Oh, let me say they were NOT a packed house. From what I understand they had only been open since 5:00pm and our dinner was at 6:30. Where we were sitting we could hear how disgruntled the 2 waiters were to work on Christmas day. Granted, it’s awful working on Christmas, but either be open for business or not. They would have done us a favor by not being open. They had a limited variety of foods they were making that night and we paid over $60 dollars for romaine lettuce, plain barely baked potatoes, 2 rolls, 1 cold crab cake, and 1 vodka tonic. The small oz. fillets were acceptable. I will give them that they did reluctantly scrounge up some more hard-as-a-rock butter and some scrapings of cheese for our potatoes that we didn’t even want to begin with; but had to because they were out of the mashed. We weren’t familiar with Asheville but heard it was nice. NOT SO!    [26 Dec 2007 20:09:09]
