As a party of 10, we arrived at Mel's Diner after a trip UP the mountain, however, it was all downhill after that. When we entered the diner there were three girls standing at the counter talking and AFTER they completed their conversation they asked how many in our party. We responded 10 and she rolled her eyes....She seated us and left......sometime later another person came to the table to take our drink orders and when WE asked how she was, we were told that she was tired - she had been there since 9 (it was about 1 now). After quite a while she returned with our drinks and proceeded to take our food orders....Approximately one hour after ordering she returned to the table to tell one person in our party that there were no more hotdogs.....after one hour and 15 minutes she came out to relay to another member in our party that there were no more hotdogs. We then asked what the holdup on the rest of the food was and she informed us there was nothing she could do about it........After one hour and a half, we walked out of the restaurant with no food..........I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. The Grease Pit I too have eaten' here many times because it is open 24/7 but it stopped doing that on the weekdays. It's the owners and the management, they are just TERRIBLE. They have no idea how to run a decent business and they get away with it because they know college students won't put up much of a fight. [12 Feb 2005 18:05:49]

We LOVED It!!! I was traveling with my three teenagers and decided to take them to Mel's since it was right next door to our hotel. We loved it! The staff was friendly and our meal came in a reasonable amount of time considering how large the order was. The portions were large and cooked to perfection. The wait was about 10 minutes. But remember...this is not a "fast food" in the sense of the "Arches" or "BK". The decor was 50's style sock-hop and very clean. Overall, this is by far a great place to eat. [28 Mar 2005 20:48:08]

Go anywhere but Mel's!!! Hubby and I stopped here with our two young children. We were lucky and were served quickly, but the food was absolutely the worst I've ever had. We spent $40 on just us (my son is an infant and ate nothing, and it still cost that much). It was the worst $40 I've ever spent. The food was on the level of old cafeteria food and cheap TV dinners, only it costs 10 times more! My burger barely tasted like meat, more like fat with heavy spices. It was dry and had the texture of outdoor carpet. My husband's pork sandwich was supposed to be BBQ but there was no sauce as far as we could tell and it was luke warm at best.
Please, please if you read this review before you go, don't waste your money. Go to a cheap fast food restaurant. The food will be better quality and it will cost much less. I am very surprised Mel's is still in business. [09 Jul 2006 15:26:38]

Great Diner Decor We go back to Mel's again and again for breakfast. We love the 50's style decor, and the waitresses are sweet and friendly, even when they are swamped. We go away for months at a time, and they welcome us like old friends when we return. We've only tried breakfast, but it is definitely one of our favorite places in Boone. [10 Jul 2006 15:06:32]

Good Service & Good Food We went there hoping they would have the good nachos that we always eat at Mel's Diner (I think Troy's was Mel's originally) but they did not so we had to revise our meal. This was not a big problem since their menu is vast and we are not that hard to please.
The food we chose as second choice was very tasty and prepared the way we liked and our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. Everyone in our party agreed that we would go back again without hesitation. [18 Jun 2007 11:38:07]
