It's a restaurant that's got Cary all abuzz. Some say that their food is fantastic. We'll be the judge of that. - CitySearch - suggest change

Awesome! The food was great!!! I used to hate Thai food, but now I LOVE it - at least at Sushi-Thai. I had something w/ basil and chicken, don't remember what it was called. Husband and friend loved the eel appetizer. Service was terrific, and the atmosphere was very nice (suprisingly nice for the exterior of the place). [16 Dec 2004 14:04:57]

Diamond in a dump My daughter, a student at State, has become a sushi addict. She went here with some friends and loved it, so had to share it with the Old Man. (She's also quite fond of Pad Thai).
We live just a few blocks away, and I was amazed when she told me ANYTHING good was in this shopping center! It's been sort of in the backwater of the Kildare/Maynard area for years as other strip malls updated their appearance. Nothing like this has happened here. But, once inside the door - WOW! Blonde wood, wonderful lighting, and a Sushi bar shaped like a boat that knocks you over when you first walk in.
We waited for maybe 20-30 minutes (why do people have to smoke right outside a restaurant where there is a line? Have some manners, people - walk away from those who can't walk away from you!) We squeezed back inside when ButtHead lit up, but were seated just a minute or two later.
A multi-page, multi-sectioned menu was presented that is littered with tempting choices. We got a great Beauty and the Beast and Dragon Roll for appetizer, then some skewers and soup, and my daughter's de rigour Pad Thai. I wasn't much for the soup, but I think it's just my general dislike of Thai, rather than the cook or the recipe. The sushi, however, is to die for.
I now make excuses to stop in (like - um - oh, yeah, I need an oil change. Guess I'll head to Jiffy Lube. And duck around the corner while it's on the rack for a quick Spicy Tuna Roll!).
The service, always very friendly, is a bit more casual than what I've been used to at other Asian restaurants, but they have a huge local following that they greet by name, complete with hugs and "How's the family?" comments. And that's with Westerners, not just in-family stuff. While this indicates a great business, it's also distracting when you're sitting there waiting for your to go order, which is sitting on the bar.
The hours are generous, and their prices right in line with the market for sushi. (Do you really want to eat discount sushi?) If you like Sushi and you're in the Cary area, give it a try. I suggest between lunch and dinner for a first visit, maybe on a weeknight. That way, you'll get their full attention. After you're hooked, you'll know it's worth the wait. [30 Apr 2006 00:38:22]
