An Italian Restaurant Charges for Olive Oil?
The food, service, and ambiance is always good at this intimate little restaurant. However, on a recent visit my wife asked for olive oil in which to dip her bread and was given a small saucer with a trace of oil. When she asked for more, she was informed there was a charge. She declined more, but there was a charge of $l.00 on our bill for olive oil. This is ridiculous.    [31 Jul 2003 14:24:21]

Terrible Service, Decent Food
Four of us ate at Cafe Calabria. The sign on the front door said closed, but we found them to be open. Our server spilled red wine all over one of our coats (yellow coat, no less) and took it to the kitchen to be washed. The party with the wine stained coat asked to have the wine replaced. 30 minutes later, her husband went to the kitchen to again request that the wine be replaced and found one of the kitchen workers still trying to get the stain out. Our server was completely flustered by the incident and the fact that the restaurant filled up quickly. She never brought the wine, never offered to have the coat dry cleaned, never offered to comp the drink or offer something to make amends for the spill. She was poorly trained and ill-prepared to be of service. All-in-all, the food was nice, but the service was atrocious. We saw several parties leave after waiting a long time for service. If this keeps up, I won't expect to see Cafe Calabria around next year. The other server, a young man, had it together. He was whisking out beverages, salads, bread and food while the other poor server could barely keep her head above water. Not sure we would go back.    [16 Oct 2006 15:31:29]

Pass on this one
A quiet,intimate ambience, but that's the only good thing I can say about this restaurant. The service was very slow and way off-kilter. Our table of five each received our food at different times. And the food itself was nothing to write home about. Not bad, exactly, but definitely not good. Bland, watery soup. Plain salads. Salty bruschetta. And meat sauce that tastes like it comes out of a jar. Pass on this one.    [17 Mar 2007 19:48:48]
