American Eccentric
Rick's Cafe and Grille is in an antique building. Inside the walls are painted a lively "red jalapeño" color. The walls are covered with artwork by local artists, which are all for sale; everything from airbrushed scenery, beautiful oil paintings, to photography. The restaurant is divided into two separate rooms. The dining room is on the fancy side with nice white linen table clothes, dark purple napkins, candles and centerpieces. The tavern is more casual. The tavern side is smoking and is where the bar is located. There is always a great selection of music on at the perfect volume level.
Upon visiting you will often be greeted by Rick at your table. On occasion he will have his 10 month old daughter, Crystal with him. She loves to meet new people, and will always greet you with a smile.
The Menu is a "step out of the ordinary" as the employees will say. Rick's has everything on the menu from Kangaroo to sandwiches. They serve a great Mixed Game Grille which has alligator, buffalo, kangaroo, ostrich, and rocky mountain oysters accompanied with a cognac demi glaze and the potato of the day. They have frog legs available as an appetizer. Rick's also serves the best duck breast I have ever tasted. The Pan Seared Duck Breast entree is marinated in fresh raspberries, Belgium chocolate and mint; served medium-rare and finished with a vanilla bean-Navan crème, accompanied with their cafe rice pilaf. The Pan Seared Sea Scallops are also one of my favorites. The scallops are lightly breaded and served atop wild mushrooms ravioli tossed in a smoked Gouda cream sauce with scallions, roasted red peppers, and portabella mushrooms. When the menu says "The Best Corned Beef Rueben North of NYC" they weren't joking! It is the classic Reuben sandwich on marble rye bread served with fries or onion rings. The sandwich has the perfect amount of ingredients; I have never had one like it!
Everything is made to order and very fresh. The fish specials are the freshest you could get. Rick's father fishes often and brings the freshly caught fish to serve. More often than not they will filet the fish upon ordering.
Even the salad dressings are different! They serve creamy parmesan poppy seed, citrus-herb vinaigrette, bleu cheese, maple-curry, balsamic vinaigrette, honey-fresh plum vinaigrette and mango-jalapeno.    [28 Jun 2007 17:59:18]
