Although the service was a little slow (but friendly) the food is just great. I had scallops over liguine in a butter and garlic sauce with lemon and it was fabulous. The New England style clam chowder is exceptional and everyone else raved about their meals as well. This is the second time I've been to this restaurant and my only complaint is that you can never get in -- even going after Labor Day there was a 45 minute wait (this is for the inside dining room). It isn't cheap (about $45 a person with drinks and tip, but no dessert or coffee--we were too full!), but it is definitely worth it. And if you can't get in try the outside restaurants. The Lobster House offers fine seafood, but does not live up to expectations because of lack of variety in cooking and side dishes that show little in the way of originality. There are more sophisticated ways to serve fish. Think of sauces. There are more interesting ways to make vegetables than overcooking or over sweetening. The freshness of the food is what saves the Lobster House, but a little creativity in the kitchen would be greatly appreciated. [09 Mar 2004 16:10:23]

Can you say Bland? Went there for the first time this past weekend, due to the Food TV Foodfinds recommendation. Yikes... I'm not a seafood person, even though I live at the Jersey shore, but my wife and our friends are. I had their Strip steak, which was reasonably good, done to my liking but no oomph. My wife had shrimp scampi. She liked it, but didn't love it, my friend had Broiled Flounder, which was BLAND! His wife had the crab meat, which wasnothing special. The sides were lacking imagination. I mean come on: snow peas, applesauce and nothing more exciting. This is a restaurant that gets on TV? I may have to avoid the FoodTV recommendations. Oh, and for the money, I have eaten at WAY better local restaurants in the Jersey shore area that don't cost as much, and the chefs are, well, creative. If you want your moneys worth, go somewhere else. If you want to be treated like an overcharged tourist, be my guest. BUT, the service was fabulous. [23 Jul 2004 18:00:53]

Great place, for food and fun I make my way to the Lobster House a few times each summer and have never been disappointed. The seafood is basic, exactly how it should be. you should be able to taste your fish and lobster, not be overwhelmed by some new-wave fruit salsa on top of it.
The atmosphere is endlessly entertaining. the views are amazing and the walls are covered in old photographs chronicling the evolution of the local fishing industry, one of the largest on the east coast.
Though constantly bustling, the service is outstanding and the food always consistently good. There are also some great places to hang out on the back dock. 2 great bars -- the raw bar and the schooner bar -- are both local and tourist favorites. The schooner bar is one of the most fun daytime bars in Cape May, nestled up in the bow of a real floating ship with music, shade, frozen and mixed drinks, and friendly bartenders. Living on Fast Food Till You Reopen Since the fire at your restaurant, I have been living on fast food. I cannot wait until you reopen, soon I hope? The food is wonderful, simple and plentiful, the prices are not outrageous and the service is outstanding. I hope you have kept the fireplace as it is a favorite of mine to hang out in while waiting, what sometimes seems forever for a table but really isn't. Thanks for a great place to eat in Cape May. Excellent Lunch and Service I took a cab from the Washington Street mall to the Lobster House for lunch. The meal and service was just as good as I remember it. My waitress was one of the best I have ever had. She was fast and attentive to my needs. My sauteed scallops were done to perfection: a dozen served on a very hot plate. [24 May 2006 02:50:23]

Mediocre at Best This is a very popular spot, but the food is very average and plain. You will not get anything original or exciting. I found that the lunch specials (usually two or three) are about the most interesting but not always a seafood item. There is too much hustle and bustle to have an enjoyable meal; service is rushed and annoying. [24 Jul 2006 08:40:15]
