Great for a Romantic Evening The food at this restaurant was really good. I loved the Jamaican style pork -- unusual spices -- and the sweet potatoes were outstanding. Sitting on the porch is a nice way to spend a pleasant evening for two. Service was friendly and attentive. [04 Sep 2003 14:22:46]

Best Brunch This has been my favorite place since 1980. Only complaint is that we received a gift certificate from friends which expired in a year. (We kept forgetting to bring it with us) Mark, the owner, refused to honor it. "Hey, Mark, after two decades of loyal patronage and multiple recommendations, even to strangers, we think your gift cerificate policy is unfair and poor. We felt like you stole our friends money!" Not worth the price The striking thing about the Mad Batter is that it doesn't even come close to what it aspires to be. Let me clarify: it aspires to be some sort of gourmet quaint restaurant, but in reality, it's has sub-standard food, diner waitresses, and a porch that's encased in plastic, making the atmosphere just terrible. The portions are abundant, but the food isn't that tasty, so you'll definitely have left overs. The waitresses are the type that would serve you in a diner ("Want ketchup with that, Hon?"), and the host/hostess barely cracks a smile. If you do dine there despite this review, don't dine on the porch. I mean, why even have dining on the porch if they're going to encase the entire area in plastic? (They could have at least used plants if they wanted to cut down on the breeze). I've tried Mad Batter twice and had the same experience; I won't be trying it a third time. [22 May 2006 12:24:54]

Loved it - food is good. My family and I went down to Cape May (my first time in 23 years since living here in NJ!) on the weekend at the end of April a few months ago, and stayed at the hotel upstairs from where The Mad Batter is. I'm not sure why reviewers don't like the food there. I guess they went there at a bad or crazy time. I enjoyed the food. Breakfast was the best, and I liked dinner too. The waitress was really friendly. Prices were very affordable and cheap compared to diners in my hometown area.
You can't go wrong with The Mad Batter restaurant. I guess the food is good when its not too busy. I'm definitely going back there again in the future. [12 Jul 2007 02:32:40]
