Kind of expensive, nice service, one disappointment I had dinner in the Cranbury Inn. It was very colonial looking inside. We had enough things to talk about just enjoying the scenery and the decorations. The staff was nice and polite, and every one thought their dinner was good. The average price for the dinners was around $20.00.
I had the Ostrich Special, which was tasty. My wife had scallops and shrimp with pasta and enjoyed it very much.
Personally, I was disappointed because my wife asked for orange juice, and they served her some very watery "from concentrate" style juice with lots of ice, and it seemed sour as if the bottle had been there for weeks. My wife thought it was mixed with alcohol. This restaurant is too expensive not to serve some fresh "not from concentrate" juice, something like Tropicana.
If not for that minor detail, I would have no complaints. [01 Sep 2003 11:49:08]

Excellent Staff Cranbury Inn is a lovely, cozy restaurant. But, if not for the staff, it would not be worth the money. In particular, there's an extra special waiter named "Guy". If you're up for a lovely, winter-time evening and extra-friendly service, ask for Guy. [29 Nov 2003 10:57:43]

Bring Back Yesteryear Over the past several months I paid three visits to this worn-out historic inn. The menu was very pedestrian. The service was attentive and accomodating, but given the limited number of patrons in the restaurant each time, this was to be expected. The quality of the food was inconsistent from visit to visit. Perhaps because the same chef was not working on each of our visits or perhaps because the "chef" has had no formal culinary experience. We chuckled at the entertainment during one of our visits as the lounge singer with the bad toupee belted out "classics" for the dancing enjoyment of the over 90 crowd. The corners which are being cut by ownership are painstakingly obvious in this impressive building which gets more and more disaapointing as you peel away the layers to the core (kitchen). Given the prices and that which it tries to be, you are better off elsewhere. [23 Nov 2004 14:16:06]

Don't bother with this way too expensive restaurant. We visited on Valentines Day and it was one disaster after another. My filet was blackened to charcoal on one side, the food was very, very slow to appear and then it all was lukewarm. We were upstairs (after asking to move away from all the din of downstairs) and the waitress was such a dolt... she had to stand still, close her eyes and recite the available soft drinks for each table like it was remembering the 45th amendment to the constitution. Pretty annoying after the forth of fifth new table. I can't say enough about the poor quality and presentation of the food. By the time we left, the five or six tables of patrons were on a first name basis and were joking about who would be lucky enough to either get some food (even though it would not be what they ordered), get some bread, get their check, or get home before midnight.
We arrived a half hour before anyone else, and yet did not get our food first. The second couple arriving after us STILL didn't have their food by the time we paid our check and left. And can we talk about highway robbery for such an unpleasant experience?
I did talk to the manager and he was gracious but nothing can make up for very poor service, over priced food and inexperienced kitchen. We won't be back. Give Hannah and Mason's a try. Very expensive but, you at least get what you pay for!! [26 Jul 2005 14:53:46]

Nice town but poor restaurant with lousy service Set up 8pm Reservation for my wife and I. We arrived at 7:45pm and waited until 8:45pm to be seated. I complained 20 minutes into the wait (approx 8:20pm) and was told they were doing their best. I can't say with full conviction but I believe one of the waiters made a snide remark but wouldn't admit it when I asked what was said. We met our waiter about 10 minutes after being seated and ordering drinks. WE NEVER SAW HIM AGAIN! We had to call another waiter over after 20-25 minutes of waiting. I could go on and on about the poor service but for brevity's sake I won't. We didn't leave this overpriced and poorly run trap until shortly before 12am. Topping it all off was the fact that my steak was burned to a crisp on the outside. My wife's dish tasted awful as well. NEVER AGAIN! [30 Sep 2006 16:31:04]

Good Food, Homey Atmosphere We enjoyed dinner in this quaint, history-laden restaurant, which is situated in a picturesque town. The food was hearty and tasty, and the dessert we shared was fantastic. [28 Jan 2007 10:16:58]

Don't Waste Your Money The evening was a special occasion, an anniversary. I made this very clear when making our reservation. They suggested that we sit upstairs because it's very cozy & romantic, so that is where we sat. The room was so very tiny that we were bumping into each other under the table. When the food arrived they couldn't fit the tray thru the door. The ambience: if you love plastic flowers and an IKEA pole lamp that my daughter used in her dorm room at college, then this is the place for you. The Food & Service: Our waitress complained she was tired and didn't want to climb the stairs. I ordered their "Famous Maryland Crab Cakes", which tasted like the crab came from a can. The Onion soup also tasted like it was from a can with a glop of cheese on it. The Caesar salad tasted like no Caesar salad I have ever eaten: No fresh ground black pepper, just an overwhelming lemon taste that caught you in your throat. We both had Surf and Turf: the lobster was overcooked and had a slight taste of clorox. Our water glasses were filled once & never again. The dessert list was minimal at best: it was served without any plates or eating utensils. The wine list is fair. The kicker of the evening was that either my husband or I had to keep going to the top of the stairs to call down to the waitstaff when we wanted anything. The bread & butter were actually counted -- Two rolls and two pats of butter. The vegetables were frozen
When dinner for two costs over $200 one would expect it wouldn't be partially self-service. [29 Jun 2008 17:10:29]

Pricey - Will never go back !! We had a reservation for lunch. The service was slow and terrible. I asked the waiter for a menu and was told someone else would bring it! Our orders were mixed up or totally wrong. The ambiance is good, but you can't eat that. When I asked for our check and handed over my credit card, I had to wait 20-25 minutes for the credit card receipt, and saw that I was overcharged. I asked for a credit to the account and new charge be prepared. I was later told original had been credited, and I signed a new charge. This took over a half hour. I was told that they recently became computerized and the waiter was unfamiliar with the system, which is really not my problem. When my credit card bill arrived, not only did the original charge appear (for a larger amount yet) which was supposed to be credited, but also the second charge appeared. I phoned FOUR times and was assured the owner's wife would call me back, but she never did. After 2 weeks, I called my Credit Card Company, who gave me the credit and would report the dispute to the Cranbury Inn. I feel I gave them ample opportunity to correct this and apologize, so I will tell all my friends and neighbors of my bad experience. So if you go, examine your check and make sure it is fully detailed. [09 Jul 2008 20:30:52]
