COMFORT EVERYTHING As a child growing up in the early 60's and 70's there was one thing that was most wonderful and dear to my heart. The Emerson Hotel. This was located by the Train station in Emerson, New Jersey. As we arrived there in my father's T-Bird my sister and I would would scan the bar as we wandered into the facility and look at all the regulars sitting and talking about whatever. We on the other hand were there for the steak sandwiches. Those warm and golden, dripping in butter delites this venue had become famous for. A full healthy meal in those days....you got everything you needed; cole slaw, pickels, and those wonderful french fries.....finished with a home made sweet and this was heaven. We need more places like this in this fast paced, stressed out world we live. "simple is the best way" [18 Jun 2002 15:45:10]

Still World Class after 50+ years! We have been coming since Curley, Pat, Alice, Frankie, and all the "old gang" were there... We always watched our step! Even though I live in Vermont, I STILL come down, and enjoy Eddie, Gary and the gang... It is still a Neighborhood hangout for me, even though I come 225 miles and not as often as before....By the way, where are the "Children must remain seated" signs? [08 Apr 2003 20:36:41]

WOW!!!! It has been at least 50 years since my family took me to the Emerson. I guess it was one of our favorite places to go. We lived in Ridgefield. My wife and I live in CA now and we were visiting my cousin and he brought us to the Emerson because he remembered how we loved the restaurant. What a treat it was for me especially. The steak sandwich was as I remembered. [22 Jul 2004 21:08:15]

Don't ever let them change I grew up in Closter and the Emerson was a tradition several times a month. Yes, we did have to remain seated, but that great steak sandwich and cole slaw were enough to keep even us scamps seated. We will be going there in the first week of August and having read these other reviews, my mouth is already watering. I owned a restaurant on Beacon Hill and always tried to reprise the slaw of the Emerson. [16 Jul 2009 20:16:27]
