Description
A Hibachi and Sushi house.
Has 4 large Hibachi Tables on one side of the restaurant, a partition in between for odor control (so the hibachi does not overpower the sushi), with 3 "Tatami Tables" (sitting on the floor with a knee level table) and as well as a dozen or so tables for 4. Adequate lighting throughout, as well as UV Black lights in the bathroom for bacteria control.
Sushi is made where you can watch. Always 2 chefs present. Sushi entrees are $10.95 to $46.95.
Prices for hibachi range from $12.95 for vegetables to $29.95 for Lobster tail, shrimp and scallops. Childrens menu available, $9.95 to 11.95.
The kitchen also offers Teriyaki, Tempura, Katsu, Bento Boxes, and Hot Pots.
Reservations are recommended for a Tatami table. If you bring Saki, they will warm it and provide glasses.

Excellent Hibachi! I've been to the Fuji Steak House twice. On both visits everything was excellent, the food, the service. I wasn't aware that you had to bring your own beverages on my first visit. I now bring my Saki and they heat it for me. Definitely a great place! [20 May 2006 09:56:20]

Awesome Experience! We have been to Fuji many many times and the whole family enjoys it -- even my two children who are VERY picky eaters. The Hibachi experience is one we never tire of! What a great little show the chefs put on. We all marveled at the smoking and flaming volcano... not to mention the egg tossing! Highly entertaining. The Sushi is also excellent and so fresh! Even if you don't like traditional Asian fare, there is something for everyone on the menu. We also get take out from them frequently and the quality never suffers. I would highly recommend giving Fuji a try... you will be hooked! [03 Aug 2006 20:16:43]

Wish I could afford it every day! When I first went to Fuji Japanese Steakhouse, I didn't know what to expect. I have gone to Shogun in Toms River which is considered to be the best Japanese restaurant in the area, but since I live in the Forked River area, I figured I'd try this place out. The place has great, relaxing lighting, and I always head to the habachi area, but I'll try the Tatami tables also soon. Every time I've gone there I've ordered the same thing, which is Habachi Filet Mignon (medium well), along with green tea, and top it all off with green tea ice cream (I wish my local Shop-Rite had this) Since I work at Cost Cutters, I don't get the greatest pay in the world, and I blow a week's paycheck on the food there, because the Filet Mignon costs about 21.95, the green tea is probably around 1.50, and the grean tea ice cream is about 2.50. I have to say it is worth it though. It is better blowing your paycheck away at Fuji's than spending a few bucks at McDonalds just to get fat. This place is amazing, I would, though, like them to have lo mein included in the habachi meal, like shogun. Just a suggestion! [01 Dec 2006 16:39:40]

delicious Very good food, even for those who do not like "different" types of food. Nice variety of chicken and beef dishes. Not too happy with the saki squirted into your mouth until it spills out onto your clothes, or worse, into your plate. A little bit would be ok, but some chefs go overboard, especially when you do not like the saki...you WOULD NOT want it in your meal! Also, not thrilled with the chef trying to get my son's 16 year old girlfriend to pull her shirt out to throw a raw egg into her bra!! [05 Jan 2007 15:55:25]

First of all, I'm half japanese and was raised in Japan before moving to NJ (where my paternal family lives). Having been to many of the sushi establishments in ocean county, I wouldnt grace any of them with any repeat business except for Fuji Steakhouse in Forked River.
The atmosphere is very good, with the exception of the women's bathroom which could use some "real" light rather than the nightclub-esque blacklit variety that gave me flashbacks to freshman year in college.
The tatami rooms are adequate and roomy. dont forget to remove your shoes.
Contrary to popular belief, this establishment is run by Chinese staff not Japanese. So dont bother ordering in Japanese, they wont understand you. Regardless, they seem to keep-it-real with the recipes ranging from traditional to experimental. The service staff does not understand English. They're terrible. I've ordered "salmon roe" and been presented "salmon roll" on numerous occasions. Don't expect any special treatment from the sushi chefs either... they don't cater to repeat visitors with any surprise concoctions like they would in Japan or more authentic Japanese sushi bars. Even if you tip.
In sum, its a good place to go if you want some sushi that's affordable for lunch. The hibachi is greasy... they put on a good show but I dont recommend it. Their noodles are tasteless and combined with uncooked vegetables. Don't go there for udon or noodles. The miso soup there is definitely of the instant variety. Stick to the sushi. Good stuff! I have been to Fuji many times and I'm always satisfied. The staff is always on the ball and the food is fresh. In reference to Nick from Forked River's comment, I have always received Lo Mein with my hibachi entree. I would most definitely recommend!! [01 Feb 2008 18:11:49]
