Local Color Historic town, great artifact museum, good bar and made to order food. The food was fresh and cooked to order, and the staff was attentive. Comfortable, funky local restaurant worth a repeat visit. [12 Dec 2006 22:23:59]

One of my favorites, needs improvement. Located on the Historic Cohansey River, The Ship John Inn flanks a marina in safe harbor off of the Delaware Bay and is named for the nearby Ship John Shoal Lighthouse. There are restaurants that I will return to out of a simple love for the idea and potential, despite one or two bad meals. Ship John Inn is one of those places. The atmosphere and location are premier, the staff is friendly and attempts to be accommodating, and the bar has a great karaoke DJ. The food is generally good; however; the meal we had last night was somewhat disappointing. Everyone loved the myriad of appetizers, which were delivered hot and quick. Confusion followed, possibly due to the size and nature of our group. My entrée was Piccata al Limone: veal strips in white wine sauce over spaghetti. It was served slow and with many replacements. Being only the second party dining on a Saturday evening, it would have been ideal to have received the order we had placed. To their credit, they did accommodate my special drink orders -- a Shirley Temple Black AND the elusive Dr. McGillicutty's -- and fun was had by all. My biggest suggestion to the management would be to open up the grand room overlooking the river, because a view of the parking lot is not why I dine on the banks of the Cohansey.
