Needs Work A beautiful place though the food isn't quite up to the ambiance, excellent wine list though the wine steward seemed more like Tony Soprano than Monsieur Rat. The desserts were outstanding. The sculpture park is a must see before dinner, or even after. [28 Oct 2001 21:33:44]

Dissapointing The Salad of mesclun greens ($6) was less than fresh, soggy with too much dressing and overseasoned with coarse salt. Grilled scallops with celery root rosti, pink grapefruit and saffron-vermouth sauce ($28) was dried out and cold when it came to the table. The sauce is too sweet and does not compliment the scallops even if they were not dried out and cold. The creme brulee was very good.
I love the gardens and am a member. [27 Dec 2004 11:42:12]

Rat's Rat's is simply excellent. Since the last review was about five years ago, there is a new Chef and new direction. The Saturday and Sunday brunches are awesome values but on the weekend the attached sculpture garden is more crowded than my liking. (It is in New Jersey, so how could it not be crowded?) The staff is more than helpful with menu and wine selections because they have tried everything themselves. Wine selection is out of this world. The food is remarkable from conception to execution. A true pleasure from beginning to end. Not looking to pay fine dinning prices, check out the cafe' which is more casual and offers two menus most days and evenings. If you do not stroll the grounds for sculpture after your meal you are missing the entire experience. [02 Nov 2006 22:03:17]
