Authentic Greek Food, At Reasonable Prices!!! I have been to Greek Restaurants all over the world and Pithari is truly a gem. Some of the most authentic and tasty dishes around. Who would ever imagine a restaurant like this, in Highland Park, New Jersey. We made reservations on Father's Day, for a party of six and arrived 30 minutes late. The dining room was packed, but the owner was accomodating and hustled a few tables together, which worked perfectly. The service throughout the whole meal, was above an beyond. We started the meal, with the the cold and hot mixed appetizer samplers (Pikilies). Both were an excellent variety of Greek favorites. Everything was so fresh, Not like many restaurants, which open up a jar and pour the Greek specialties, on the serving dish. Everything was home made. Everyone had a different dish for the main course. The plates of food, were enough for three people (everyone at the table had plenty to take home). Again, all of the food was expertly prepared. I had a very difficult time choosing the main course, but chose the stuffed eggplant. Excellent!!! The desserts were all yummy too. Not a bad part, to the meal. Can't wait to go back again and introduce some friends to an authentic Greek restaurant. The outdoor front porch area, will make for an enjoyable evening setting. [17 Jun 2007 22:05:03]

LAMB RULES! Seven of us dined at Pithari last night to celebrate a birthday. We started out with both the hot and cold mixed appetizer platters, which were excellent and presented the various flavors and textures of authentic Hellenic food. Some of us ordered Avgolemmeno Soup which was zesty and contained more than a trace of chicken. Most of our party chose lamb as the main course: roast lamb with lemon potatoes, and lamb in a pot with orzo and a light tomato sauce lighly flavored with cinnamon as only Hellenes can do it. Needless to say both the lamb dishes had excellent flavor and were very, very tender; all the portions were generous. One of our party raved about the moussaka both for its flavor and freshness. We topped off the evening with baklava, galatobureko and Greek and American coffee. All in all it was a most enjoyable evening and the owner could not have been more pleasant and attentive in responding to our every question and need.
