Finest Italian Restaurant in the County! Musso's Has got to be one of the finest Italian Restaurant in the State of New Jersey. Although each time I have been there the restaurant seemed relatively busy, there was never any hesitation on the management (or staff) to go out of their way to satisfy their customers! Food is excellent and service is superior. Will always be a regular customer to Musso's - worth the trip from anywhere! [29 Jan 2001 12:00:56]

I was in town on business and found an ad in the Holiday Inn Restaurant guide for Mussos. Tuesday I found the Restaurant and tried them for the first time, The food was excellent and also the service was great. I would recommend them to everyone. I wish they were located by my home in New Hampshire. [10 May 2001 10:09:57]

Service and Food is Spectacular I cannot believe that I have live less than 3 miles from this restaurant for most of my life, and it took me this long to try it. The food is perfect, the service is amazing. A customer doesn't have to look for a waitress - EVER! The entire staff helps each other serve the tables and everything works out beautifully. I have never seen a staff with this much teamwork! I wouldn't hesitate to take anyone there at anytime! [18 Feb 2004 16:31:53]

The times have changed. For the worse. I really wanted to entitle this, "How Musso's destroyed our 9th-year Wedding Anniversay Dinner", but it would not fit in the headline.
My wife and I made plans to eat at Musso's for our 9-year wedding anniversary. In the past when we had eaten there, the service and food were exceptional. Now it is nothing short of a complete joke.
When we arrived, we were greeted and sat by the busboy! There was only one customer in the main dining room and there was a party room that had about 14-16 customers, so we assumed the waitresses were busy in the party room.
We sat and were served water and bread by the busboy, who seemed to be running back and forth while the person we assumed to be the owner (mid 60's, wearing a dark suit) was standing around watching things. We ordered our drinks (again from the busboy) and then waited for about 5 minutes. No drinks. A senior couple came in and sat down.
Then the owner walked over and asked if we wanted drinks. We told him that we told the other person (the busboy) what we wanted to drink. The owner walked over and barked to the busboy. Then brought over our drinks. We waited about another 5 minutes before the owner came over to ask us what we wanted for dinner. After we told him our selections (he didn’t' write anything down), he then asked us if we were married. We said yes and that today was our 9th anniversary. The owner then proceeded to sit down and start talking to us.
First, he started to complain about wishing he was young again and then complained that his wife was Jewish. My wife (who is Jewish) gave him a look, which he noticed. He asked my wife if I she was Jewish and she said with a smirk "Yes I am, and you better watch what you say."
He then turned to me and asked me if I was Jewish. I replied no, so he says to me that my dinner "would be 20% more", in a joking manner. He then went on to ramble about needing a good sense of humor in life and other rubbish that made no sense. This was not a man who was trying to be good-natured and congratulate us on our anniversary. Instead he played with his hands and rambled on about his wife being Jewish and other nonsense. Never mind that my wife said she smelled alcohol on his breath.
So after about 10 minutes of his rambling, the busboy came over to tell the owner that the senior couple on the other side of the room was ready to order. The owner turned back to us and started rambling again. Meanwhile, the gentleman who was there when he arrived was sitting there looking around waiting for somebody to pay for his dinner, since he had been finished for a while.
After waiting and not having their order taken, the senior couple got upset, got up and left for being ignored like they were. The owner watches them leave, turns back to my wife and I and says.. ."I did that on purpose." Then yet another pause while he thought and then said he had once sat in a restaurant with a drink while he waited 45 minutes for his food. After some more rambling, another couple came in and sat down (again seated by the busboy). The owner then got up and asked us for our order a 2nd time. My wife said she wanted the Shrimp Primavera. His response was.. "that's disgusting. No it’s not bad." Then he asked me what I was having. I said the Shrimp Françoise. He again replied that was disgusting and walked off. He walked over to the couple that had sat down (apparently he knew them) and then back to check on the party room where the other diners were.
Since we had to drop off our 4-year-old daughter with my wife's sister, my wife went to call her to say we would be later than expected. While my wife was outside on her cell phone, the owner walked back to the couple that had just entered the restaurant. Meanwhile, the gentleman who had just eaten was now openly waving money in the air to get his attention that he wanted to get the heck out of there.
Then waiting for my wife to return, a man who was back with the dining group came into the main dining room and started yelling at the owner. Everybody had already eaten, except for 3 people who were still waiting for their dinners to come out. The man screamed they were spending a lot of money there and that the service was inexcusable and how could they treat their customers like that. "What you are doing here is not right!", the man yelled. So the owner got up and yelled at the busboy again, ran into the kitchen with the busboy. The man followed and yelled some more (I don't blame in one bit).
My wife came back and I told her what had transpired. When she came back in she heard one of the diners ask the owner (I thought it was the busboy at first) why they didn't have any waitresses working and the owner responded that nobody wanted to work that night!
So then they rushed some meals out and the owner sat back down with the other couple to chat with them. Finally the busboy ran over to collect the money from the gentleman who waited at least 20 minutes to get his check and pay his tab. We tried to flag the busboy down to see if the owner had actually taken our order, but he flew off to put the money away.
So now it had been at least 35 minutes since we arrived to this horror show. The owner, still sitting with the other couple, barked for the busboy to bring out 2 salads. Except when the busboy brought them out, he brought them to the other table! So we called the busboy over and asked him if our orders had been given to the chef. When he said he didn't know, we got up to leave.
As soon as we got out of our chairs and started to walk off, the owner got out of his seat and ran over with order pad in hand asking to take our order! So my wife said we wasted enough time and we had a daughter to pick up and I reasserted that this was all a big waste of time and headed out.
On the way out, I at first was not going to pay for my drink, but with the busboy standing there looking deeply embarrassed by how the restaurant was being run, I asked him how much my drink was. I was angry, but I'm not a stiff. Except the busboy said he had no idea how much the drink was. Of course he wouldn't! He was the busboy! Who was also placed in the difficult task of being bartender (no bartender working either), waiter, busboy and God knows what else. So I gave a few bucks for the drink and said I felt sorry for him that he had to go through this nightmare. Then the owner who is following us out of the restaurant asking what is wrong, why are we leaving, why am I giving the busboy money? I told him to go away and we left. Needless to say we were so upset and angry, we just nixed dinner and went and got our child and went home.
Hopefully the owner, when he sobers up will start to wonder why the parking lot is empty and nobody is eating there anymore. Musso's used to be a topnotch restaurant in our eyes. After last night, it will be a cold day in hell before we set foot on that property again, let alone recommending this place to anybody. [06 Oct 2006 10:13:04]
