Great Specials This restaurant is a hidden treasure in Nutley. It has the best mid-week specials and it's a BYOB, which are two huge incentives for families such as mine dining on a budget.
The menu is very diverse, and the food is always delicious. The chef is very accomodating, especially for children's requests. [16 Mar 2004 07:02:22]

Excellent weekend crowd I recently went on a first date to Salt of the Earth. As a 30-something, I have to say, this place rocks. Chef Mike Vigilante is awesome. Okay, how many chefs do you know that come out of the kitchen once every single table in the restaurant is served to hang out at tables at B.S with everyone? Definitely no ego on this guy. He goes out of his way to make it if it isn't on the menu. I happened to be there on a night when lots of beautfiul people were there. Very NY/hip crowd. The food is awesome. It's a bring-your-own, which is even better. My date and I had a great time there, it seemed lots of people knew each other, as they kept stopping at each others tables. Upstairs area is for smoking, and some very cool looking people were hanging up there the entire time we were there. Great spot and hopefully will stay a hidden Nutley treasure [07 Jun 2005 20:03:43]

Well Hidden Jewel This comfy little spot off the beaten path is definitely worth going past Franklin Avenue for. I never saw the big deal about the places on "The Ave". Expensive drinks accomponied by mediocre food. Not for me. The Salt is a great find. BYOB, great food, and not too expensive. It's kind of got a New Orleans / smooth jazz feel about it. Not pretentious at all. As someone else in here said, Chef Mike does hang out in the dining room at the end of the night, talking to everyone to make sure that everything was better than "alright". The guy loves what he does and it shows. As the Stones say... Let's drink to the Salt of the Earth. [20 Sep 2005 22:53:30]

Salt of the Earth is Definitely a Hot Spot I absolutely love this restaurant. As someone else here wrote - who cares about the places on Franklin Ave. who have lousy food? Salt of the Earth has an excellent menu, and it doesn't matter if your dressed up or casual - you're always welcome. Mike Vigilante has a creative menu and the portions are huge! Definitely worth checking out. [11 Jul 2006 20:59:50]
