We visited the Lobster Shanty this week not expecting much, based on our experience with the Jack Baker's outlet in Hightstown. The building is obviously brand-new, as it still smells of drywall and paint. We were seated in a corner with two glass walls overlooking the Manasquan Inlet. We watched fishing boats returning from sea, and a few people net fishing in the estuary as the sun set. I ordered Lobster, of course. It was fresh, properly cooked, and delicious. My dining mates had crab cakes, which got rave reviews, and my wife enjoyed a blackened Mahi-Mahi. Service was a bit amateurish, but this is the shore. All in all, it was a very nice experience. Jake's Pick Have been here many times, a bit pricey but very good. Interesting Seafood Menu and well recommended. [28 Aug 2006 11:57:32]

Why? I visited the Lobster Shanty many times for special occasions or just to have seafood. The food was always good. My last visit was different. First, six adults and an 18 month old were forced to sit in a booth that might have fit five people semi-comfortably. We were told it was either that table, or to wait for 2.5 hours because the larger tables were all reserved. Of the seven empty tables, one was still empty when we left. Needless to say, we ate the least we ever did because we were uncomfortable. I'd rather be comfortable in Red Lobster than return to the Lobster Shanty. Jack, wake up. Your crew is throwing away your old clientele. [22 Oct 2007 10:49:57]
