I had a feeling that I was prejudiced. The appetizer was OK but the main dish was badly cooked. I also had a stomach problem after I had the food. [02 Nov 2000 22:46:40]

Food Not Very Good... and Such Small Portions! Remember the joke about the two little old ladies commenting on the restaurant they had just eaten at:
"The food wasn't very good" said the one.
"I know, and such small portions!" adds the other.
The only thing I can add is "And to wait that long for it!" Let me say I had crab cakes that had not a sliver of backfin or lump meat -- it was stringy and dry and it took so long to arrive we didn't have time for dessert. Maybe that was a blessing in disguise. [09 Dec 2000 10:18:11]

One of the best in Princeton Please ignore the previous reviews. The Ferry House is clearly one of the best places to go in Princeton if you want to go out for a good (though expensive meal). It provides great food without the stuffy atmosphere you get in some other Princeton establishments. Give it a Try! [18 Jan 2003 09:58:01]

Please let me set the record straight I wrote the second review above -- I tried the Ferry House again and it was outstanding. What a difference two years (or a day?) makes. Ce'la vie. I give you permission to ignore my earlier review if you wish, Steve D. had no right to! [24 Apr 2003 20:30:22]

Inventive Menu A nice night out. American-Latin-Asian Fusion in a comfortable atmosphere. Standouts included a "Crab Margarita" appetizer consisted of cajun spice-rimmed martini glass, a dollop of guacamole, and Cuervo Gold Tequila Marinated Lump Crabmeat, and a sweet-spicy calamari appetizer. Good service, fair food Six of us ate there on a Sunday night in October. I tried two of the appetizers, four of the entrees and three desserts. The oysters were very good (the sauce was nothing special). The 'special' crab salad had little taste. There was no real flavor to any of the entrees -- tuna, grouper, steak, lamb. The desserts were all poor. The service was very friendly and professional.
I had expected something special. The Ferry House was a disappointment. [21 Oct 2003 17:33:09]

Good Food, Surly Service? Ate there early with 3 other folks on November 2nd, a Sunday night. The appetizers (calamari and gunpowder shrimp) were interestingly served and quite tasty. We all had fish: sole and mahimahi. Portions were reasonable (not too big, but not tiny, either).
The only weird thing was our waiter - he was a bit surly, even when he took away my wife's wine glass while it was still half full. When she stopped him (politely), he made some comment under his breath, only to return later and ask, "Well, are you done NOW?"
Overall, a good meal (especially since it's BYOB, with a liquor store across the street). [03 Nov 2003 20:12:50]

Fantastic food, irritating reception Fantastic food from the starting soups all the way through to the coffee and dessert. I have been to several highly rated establishments in the past, including top notch seafood houses in MA, and The Ferry House easily offers some of the best food we've had.
Unfortunately we had a nearly identical opening experience to Apple's experience above. Made reservations in advance, arrived around the block literally 2 minutes after our reservation time and called in to let them know we'd be there shortly, arrived 5 min after our reservation time, got our coats checked, and were then left to wait 30 minutes before our table was ready while a few other guests arrived and departed. Midway through our wait, a party of 4 arrived and informed the hostess/greeter that they did not have reservations. Hostess explained to the party that she'd have to check w/ staff to see if the restaurant could seat them that night. Less than 5 minutes later, a few tables were re-arranged and the party of 4, without any reservations at all, were seated and offered menus. We weren't escorted to our table until 10 minutes afterwards, with no apologies or explanations offered. We only found out they didn't offer wine by overhearing other guests being told about this by the hostess, as no one at the restaurant mentioned that to us directly. [03 Nov 2005 01:09:08]

Not that great.... The food there is generally good, though the portions are small. The service is horrible! The front of the house manager / hostess is totally rude and abrasive. The color of the dining room is also made for some one in the mid to late 80's , very stuffy and enclosing.
The food is pretty good, though I would not go back due to the service there, which is horrible! [28 Apr 2006 15:29:07]

OUTSTANDING The food was terrific along with the service. I dine in Princeton at least once a week, and The Ferry House is the best. Try the crab marg., and the lamb. The seafood dishes are also outstanding!!!!! [10 Aug 2006 20:57:13]
