Hot or Not I really like this place a lot. It's one of the few places that can make food spicy enough for me, yet completely un-spicy for my wife. The menu is light-hearted and extremely descriptive, not to mention quite extensive. I have not had anything I did not like yet, and I even had a vegetarian dish which for me, the ultimate carnivore is saying something. [24 Jun 2003 11:11:00]

Not your typical Indian Restaurant Besides being an attractive restaurant with great service, this is one of the few Indian restaurants in the area where all dishes do not taste the same. The chef's use of spices complement each dishes' ingredients without masking the flavor. The high quality of the food along with the broad and interesting menu make this one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the state. [16 Jul 2003 10:59:25]

Bad attitude Food is okay but the attitude of some of the staff is terrible. We had to wait 30 minutes for a reserved table on a not very busy evening and then were given a too small table in the coat room as far as we could tell. When we pointed that out we were told rather nastily that we could wait until our reserved table was free. (Which we did and were seated 45 minutes after our reservation). Every request was met with a annoyed look. Trying to get water, etc. was an ordeal and food came out very slowly. No apologies, no comps, no nothing. On top of that, the gratuity was added to our bill since we were a larger party. There was one friendly waiter but Mr. Personality seemed to be in charge. [06 Nov 2003 17:29:09]

Good vegetarian choices This was a different restaurant than the other Indian restaurants we have been to. There were a lot more vegetarian choices and some interesting sizzlers. In the breads, the Afghani Naan was excellent. It was crisp and yet soft in the inside. It had a great flavor. The other dishes we tried were also good. [19 Dec 2003 21:53:06]

Very Tasty The food here is one of the best in Princeton without the hefty price at most of the other restaurants in the area. [18 Mar 2004 14:51:06]

Great food, awful service This is my favorite Indian restaurant locally. The Afghani Naan is to die for. I also enjoy the Mint Chicken Tikka, the Aloo Papari Chaat, and any curry dish. This place would be a gold mine if not for the service. It used to be great when they first opened. Since then, it's been horrific. The staff is rude, inattentive, incompetant and downright nasty at times. I'm not sure what the problem is, but they need to fix it. If they do, they'll be the best. [05 Nov 2004 09:02:30]

Great Food and Fun The food is wonderful and the experience is fun. We went to Masala Grill with 4 other couples and shared each others meals. The service can be slow but the wait staff is responsive when asked to be. The meals were presented nicely. [12 Feb 2005 23:12:02]

Great food, stick to take-out We have loved the food in this innovative Indian restaurant since it opened, but the once-fun atmosphere has fallen victim to terrible service. The waiters are pleasant enough, but totally incompetent. We now generally stick to take-out, which may in fact be the reason that the service is so bad - half of Princeton seems to be picking up food there at any given moment. We did once get the wrong order (probably another Michael was enjoying our dinner), but a) the alternative meal was just as good as what we had ordered and b) they remembered us when we called and made up for the mix-up the next time. My advice - go there only when the university is not in session, and if you take out, check what's in the bag. Aside from those logistical issues - enjoy. There is lots of great Indian food in NJ but Masala's is among the best. [24 Sep 2006 19:41:12]

Disappointed I brought my whole family there for lunch today. Our naan bread did not come until 10 minutes after we started our meal. The refill of dishes on the buffet was slow. They charged us a mandatory 18% tip for the lunch buffet. My 3-year-old niece was charged $6.95+tax for eating 2 pieces of naan bread and some cantalopes. I will not recommend to anyone or go back to this restaurant again. [25 Oct 2006 14:01:01]

Great Place with great food. I work right across the street from Masala Grill and I enjoy their food on average about twice a week. The owners are very sweet people who remember me whenever I come in - they are always pleasant. The Chicken Tikka Masala is excellent and velvety, as are the chicken or lamb saag dishes. For an appetizer I personally am a fan of the Onion and Spinach Bhajia.
It is a little slow if you sit to eat during lunch and order a menu item, because they are very busy preparing more food for the buffet and take-out people like myself. If you can spend some time to relax and if you are familiar with Princeton's usual prices, you'll find that this is a great place with great value for marvelous food. [02 Nov 2006 13:09:20]
