A Treasure at the Shore
owner "Keirnan" knows how to please... that's why I bring a bus full at least once a year... besides going with friends.    [28 Mar 2003 19:18:00]

On July 9, 2003, my daughter and son-in-law had a birthday party for their daughter. They invited 23 guests. I arrived about 3:45 pm, to put my daughter's name in and told them their would be 23 guests. The hostess said to tell them when all the guest arrived. My son-in-law went in five minutes later and told the hostess that everyone had arrived. We waited about 45 minutes before they gave us the pager and then we had to wait another 45 minutes to get in. When we were called in, we went to the room in the back of the restaurant, and the waiter there was quite flip about 23 guest coming in. To make a long story short, the waiters and waitresses were not very organized and did not know how to handle large parties. The waiters gave us baskets of bread and margarine... there wasn't any butter on the table. I hoped they served butter with the lobster. I ordered crab cakes and baked sweet potato. The crab cakes were small and the baked sweet potato was dried out. It must have been sitting on the warming tray for an hour. The sour cream, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce was placed on the table without any spoons. My son-in-law's bill was about $400.00.

I don't know why they are so busy when there are other restaurants in Somers Point and Ocean City where the food is incredible and service is outstanding. This is the first time I have ate at the Crab Trap and it will be my last. I would not recommend the Crab Trap to anyone.

Excellent
I don't know what the reviewer above is talking about. I have been going to the Crab Trap for about 8 years and it is easily my favorite place to eat in the US. Excellent service and the best crab on the East Coast. Expect about a 45-90 minute wait in the off season and a 2 hour plus wait during the summer.    [29 Dec 2003 00:43:00]

One of my favorites!
Even though there is a wait to be seated, the meals I have had there were excellent from beginning to end. The rolls are delicious (a hint sweet) and the crab bisque is hands down the best I've tasted anywhere. There is so much crabmeat that I'd swear that they had broken up a large crabcake in the bowl! Other excellent menu items are the crabcakes (they are not small like the other reviewer claims), prime rib, crab imperial, cowboy steak, the crab imperial onion ring appetizer, and the crab balls. The service there has always been timely and pleasant. My husband and I have probably eaten there over 60 times and it is well worth the 1.5 hour drive. Sometimes we just go for dinner and go back home instead of staying at the shore.    [03 Jan 2004 01:48:18]

Cannot wait to go back...
I recently stayed in Somers Point and asked the clerk at the Residence Inn to recommend a restaurant. They sent us here, and boy were we glad they did. After an advised 30 minute wait (not much longer) we were seated and the server was pleasant and prompt. I had the Seseme Crusted Tuna and my girlfriend had the Prime Rib - both absolutely wonderful! Nice sized portions, combined with salad, and we had no room for more. The sauce with the Tuna absolutely brilliant! Give this place a try if you are close -- you won't regret it.    [19 Jan 2004 19:19:08]

Excellent
Four adults and one 4 year old. We were seated immediately and the food, wine and service were fine. It was off Season (Jan 2004), so not too busy. There was even a live pianist!    [27 Jan 2004 09:45:35]

Always a Summer Dining Highlight
I was introduced to The Crab Trap about 6 years ago by my sister and her family.
We always make it a priority to choose the day for our dining when we arrive in Ocean City in June. We have found that it is best to go Monday-Thursday and arrive early (3:30-4:00) so the wait is not too long. The food and service are always impeccable. My sister and I always take turns deciding who gets the scallops each year! Kid friendly too!
Keep up the good work.    [23 Nov 2004 11:26:44]

Forget it in the Summer
My family has been going to the Crab Trap for at least 35 years (that's as far back as I can recall). The fact it has been there so long should be a testament to something. Its easy to get to. Parking a bear in the summer. In fact, forget the summer! The meal simply isn't worth waiting 2 hours for. You might join the blue haired old gals who come by the busload (not kidding!) for dinner between 3-4pm. It is kid friendly. Not a bad atmosphere as long as you aren't seated in the rear near the "bus people". Food is just OK for being at the shore.    [23 Jun 2005 17:41:25]

Can't go wrong here
We actually had our wedding reception here and people are still talking about the food. How many people do you know that go to wedding and come home with a doggie bag. The staff could not do more for us.    [08 Feb 2006 12:03:48]
