Absolutely Horrible.....
I was winding down a good summer Sunday out with my family, and decided we'd drive 40 miles out of our way to a place that has always had a great reputation dating back to when I was my childrens age. Personally, I was excited to be going, because I remembered all the hype of the place from when I was a child. If you remember the great restaurant Zaberer's, on route 322, it was that type of memory. Anyway, this turned out to be a disappointment starting with a dish that my oldest child always loves, linguini alfredo. I thought it was a kid just being picky until I tasted it for myself. It tasted like paper mache and pasta. Then my wifes food had to be sent back also. How can you screw up fried seafood?? Nevermind that it was without seasoning. It either had been sitting out most of the evening and refried, or just overcooked. The waitress and I both agreed on the first. I'll spare you the rest of our meal's stories, but I'm sure you get the point. We've travelled enough that I tend to take my 8 year old's word on when the food should be sent back, because it rarely come to that. The waitress was very helpful and honest with us. She told us about how horrible her evening had been because of how many meals were sent back. Not to mention that it was costing her tips. She was pleasant and she didn't cook the food. So the mess on our table didn't cause her to lose a tip here. I left this place apologizing to my family for even weaving this tale on the way there about how great it was.    [11 Aug 2003 03:19:26]

Absolutely awesome
My fiancee and I absolutely love The Neptune. We are very big fans of seafood and this place has the best crab legs. Every time we go in there, the people are pleasant and our food comes out hot. It is a great place to go in and have a nice meal with friends, family or to even have a business meeting over dinner. I highly recommend the Neptune to everyone. Take a drive out to Rt. 47 and treat yourself to an awesome dinner.    [05 Sep 2003 19:36:21]

Terrible!!
Filthy including the floor and restrooms. The carpet is "squishy!" How do you think the kitchen must be? The word on the street hereabouts from servers who have worked at Neptune and went to work elsewhere is that the kitchen is not clean. Personnel are not nice... when you try to use a coupon Neptune has published, they seem to resent it. Seafood is often overcooked and not properly seasoned (too much, as in the cajun dishes, or too little, as in most of the rest). What decor they had has been the victim of a sloppy paint job with color slathered on the various nautical devices on display. Don't go!    [07 Dec 2003 15:34:25]

Good Seafood in a unique setting!
While the Neptune's appearance is growing a little dated, the food and setting are still good. The bar always has a crowd, and on Thursday nights they have All You Can Eat Crab Legs, for $22.99 which includes salad, bread and pasta. The Crab Legs are lightly seasoned with garlic and butter, very good! And at the end of your meal they will bring you hot towels and lemon to freshen up with. Worth the trip for GOOD seafood, right on 47 in Vineland.    [29 Jan 2004 17:26:47]

They must be racist
I had heard a lot of good things about the food at the Neptune Seafood House, so the wife and I thought we'd give it a try. The wife and I are an interracial couple and when we went to Neptune the hostess seated us promptly. We were given menues and looked forward to a great meal. We sat there for about fifteen minutes and saw a couple of waitresses look into the dining area. They knew we were there, we were seated in the middle of the dining room, so we waited patiently. Another tem minutes went by and we were never even given a glass of water or anything. Then another family came in not only did they get water, but a waitress came and took their food order. We waited five more minutes and still no waitress came to take our order. So we got up and left and went to another establishment where we were treated with respect.    [06 Nov 2004 14:41:20]

Nice place for a good meal!
I went to Neptune for the first time this week. I have always heard good things about it and they were all true. I must admit I was a bit skeptical because I read these reviews before going.
The decor reminded me of Pirate-themed restaurant I visited as a child. The service was excellent and the food was great. I did not have to wait for anything, the server was on the money. It was definitely worth the drive.
Just a word of advice for the harsh critics listed on this site, try signing your name to your negative comments!

Great Lobster
My wife and I have been coming to Neptunes for the last 37 years. We usually come on our Aniversary and Birthdays. You can pick a live 2.5 pound lobster from the tank. It is ususually extraordinary and a treat. I think they have the best lobster in NJ including shore restaurants. Other great dishes include their combination broiled seafood plank.    [10 Jun 2007 18:47:10]

Always a great meal
My family and I have been going to the Neptune Seafood Restaurant for many years and I can't count how many times we have been there. I can tell you from experience that we only had one bad experience, but like any place there is bound to be a problem from time to time. We gave it a second chance and go back because the food is usually very good.
I usually get the jumbo fried shrimp. It's cooked just right and tastes so good. The New England Clam chowder is excellent and the bread they serve is awesome.
My wife likes the Stuffed Crabs. She says it's the best she's ever had.
As for "Anonymous" above, I think he just had one bad experience and he really should not give up so easily. I never had any of the Italian dishes there, and if I were going for Italian food, I would go to an Italian Restaurant. This is a seafood restaurant and the seafood at this restaurant is by far the best you can get for your money.
The Neptune usually offers coupons in some of the telephone books and newspapers. We usually go before dinner and get the lunch deals.

I got a Jumbo shrimp dinner with soup or salad, bread, a veggie, and a drink,
and my daughter got a shrimp dinner with a salad, baked potato, a veggie and a drink all for under $30.

Now you tell me where can you get 3 dinners that taste great for under $30?
I spend almost that much at McDonalds or for pizza for the family.    [19 Aug 2007 13:07:31]

A 27 year return!
My wife and I returned to The Neptune after 27 years and we were delighted!
The food was of very good quality and with the coupon we used, the price was right. On the negative side, the place could use a sprucing up!    [22 Sep 2007 20:45:06]

Best Bargain in Town
My family and I have been dining at the Neptune since the beginning. One (or all) of us typically eat there once a week, and almost always take advantage of the great lunch specials. Mondays feature "from the sea" lunch options like seafood combination and stuffed flounder. Tuesdays offer "from the land" options that include steak, prime rib, and bbq ribs. All of these picks include soup or salad and one vegetable or a side of pasta, all for $7.99!! Saturday is a favorite with my family and friends because of the tasty prime rib lunch for $7.99 also. A tip we tell everyone is that Neptune serves lunch until 4:30, so go there near that time, and enjoy an early "dinner" without the dinner prices. Remember, very few dining establishments get it all right, all the time. But I can honestly say that the times I have been disappointed by Neptune can be counted on one hand. Why waste your money on a Mc-something meal, when you could have a good seafood meal for the same price? To me, it's a no-brainer! Neptune may not have the "top-notch" decor that others may desire for their dining experience, but that's fine with me. Most restaurants jack their prices up to help pay for this "decor", but not Neptune. I'd much rather get a steal on a meal and keep looking at those same-old nets and fish tanks!!!    [08 Oct 2007 00:11:44]
