Excellent food, nice atmosphere but a little unrefined
A friend of my wife recommended this restaurant, so this was our first time there. My wife's friend said they never had a bad meal there.
While waiting to be seated a young guy in a t-shirt & shorts came out from the kitchen to grab a calculator. The hostess looked fifteen. The menus were slightly soiled. There were white linens on the table but ours had some small stains on the table cloth.
When I asked about the origin of the mussels, the waitress didn't know but asked. She was unable to get 'serious' answer and said the people in the kitchen just 'busted her chops'.
Now for the food... The bean soup was outstanding. The Escarole soup was lacking flavor. The crab stuffed mushroom appetizer was very good. The Caesar salad was good with an abundance of graded parmesan. I like my salad colder. My wife had [baked] crabcakes over risotto. It was good. I had rack of lamb with a wine demi-glace. It was accompanied by mashed potatoes & sauteed veggies. The flavor of this dish was outstanding. My only disappointment with my dish was the toughness of the lamb.
It's a BYOB. With that said, we had good experience and plan to go back again.    [23 Aug 2003 09:55:39]
