One of the worst
Normally I do not have time to do this sort of thing. I am doing it because, had it not been for someone else's good review I never would have found Sally Ling's. In short, the food was awful. I am formerly from Fairfax VA, where there is a very high ethnic mix in the population. This has created an area rich with some of the best Chinese, Korean, Indian and Mexican food I have ever eaten.

I found S.L's to be inexcusably bland. I was immediately suspect when I pulled up to the restaurant and did not detect a hint of Chinese food aroma in the air. Then again once inside, nothing! Soon the food came… Albeit fresh and hot, as flavorless as canned gravy.

Being a former chef, I am compelled to ask myself how did they do that? Ginger, fermented black beans, garlic and cilantro! Some of the most flavorful and aromatic ingredients in the world and Sally Ling's managed to dilute them into a flavorless gelatinous condiment.    [09 Feb 2004 18:16:46]
