Don't Judge A Book by It's...or a Restaurant! The Range Cafe and Bakery is in Bernalillo (15 miles north of Alb. on I-25). There is also a new Range Cafe in Albuquerque). The Range offers delicious food in a friendly, "people-place" atmosphere. Moderate prices, but worth a couple of extra pesos! Often very busy, especially at noon-time...a local's favorite too! Try it...you'll like it! The only thing "plain" about this restaurant is the exterior! [29 Apr 2003 13:10:49]

Too Good To Be True A diamond in the rough in the Albuquerque area. Eclectic Southwestern atmosphere, very unique and enjoyable. I have tried many dishes there and they were all my favorites. This eatery will leave you dying for more. The breakfast is wonderful but the best item on the menu would have to be the Green Chicken Chili Stew. On the first bite the flavors "BURST" in your mouth-- it's unlike any other stew I've ever had. It's a must-try. Also the meatloaf, french toast, and bread pudding are all excellent. My new #1 mexican (and more) Let me preface this review by saying my wife of 19 years is Hispanic, so I know good Mexican food. The Range Cafe was recommended several months ago by a couple I met in my favorite sushi place in Albuquerque. I finally had the opportunity to return and try it. I now have a new "Best Mexican Food" restaurant to gauge all others by. I always look for a "Combination" on my first visit; it gives me a taste of many items all at once. Their combo included two beef enchiladas, a tamale, a chile relleno with rice and beans. Chile relleno is my special love and this was the best I'd ever had, period, nobody close in second place either. Both the relleno and enchiladas were done with blue corn maza and were to die for. Rice and beans were both good but probably didn't qualify for "best ever". When I finished dinner, I very nearly ordered another combo, it was that fantastic. Now I'm a sucker for creme brule and I noticed they offered it so I'd pretty nearly decided I had to save room for it, that was until I saw the dessert menu. They offer a lemon zest cake with apricot on top, just sounded too interesting to pass up. Somehow creme brule sounded too reserved after this dinner; I made the correct choice as it was delightful and provided the needed excitement to follow up the fantastic combination. I hear everything else is as good; I don't think I'll ever find out as the combination is so good, it'll be hard not to always get. As a side note, I asked to get the red and green sauces on the side so I could sample each individually. I thought the green was so good I could have eaten just a cup of it. [13 Jun 2005 11:06:45]

Where I take all visitors I've moved in two years ago. Some say it's not what it once was. I don't know. Maybe their nostalgia is getting to them. A premiere restaurant without being pretentious. Motto of "ordinary food done uncommonly well" is justified. I wish they were a tad cheaper, but they deserve the success. Like I said, it's where I take all visitors. You're not going to find it this good very often. [27 Jun 2005 02:01:54]

Nice if you're very social The Range is always packed. The food, if prepared correctly, is good bordering on hearty. However, once they expanded to other restaurants, the quality of food has gone downhill. If you're the type of person that likes a boisterous eating environment and are not afraid of sending a misprepared meal back, then this is definitely the place for you. They are capable of producing a great meal, and the interior is whimsically fun. [14 Jan 2008 21:57:13]
