My wife and I stopped in while touring thru the mountains. We both had the Taco dinner. The food was delicious, the salsa is made fresh daily and the servings were perfect. [24 Jun 2003 11:49:04]

Not so good this time We went back over the July 4th weekend because the food was so good before. Sadly we were disappointed this time. There has been a recent change of management, the waiter who was so prompt with service was gone and the service was sketchy as best. [17 Jul 2003 14:04:53]

Recent Visit To Smokey Bear Restaurant Wow! I suppose since the person's review above there has been a change in owners and they also manage it.
The food was wonderful, the service was friendly, complete and all anyone could ever ask for.
The prices? Compared with other restaurants in Lincoln County they are the most reasonable; such as, breakfast specials for $1.99 which includes two eggs, hash browns and toast or biscuit.
Lunch specials and dinner specials from $5.99 to $7.99.
No complaints here. [10 Dec 2005 22:55:14]
Food: Service: Ambiance: Overall: Recommended Dishes: Oh my god...the green chili stew or the catfish or fried chicken dinners. The blue plate specials are $4.99 and filling as well as fantastic.

I'm staying at the Smokey Bear Motel Right Now Motel rating, remodeled recently, new carpets, curtains, rods, bedspreads. It has been painted since I was here last year. Great beds. Quiet. I really do enjoy it here and the friendly atmosphere is why I come here instead of Ruidoso where prices are higher and its only 19 miles of beautiful scenery away.
Restaurant rating - I have eaten most of the main menu items at various times that I have stayed here. This time they have a Southwestern chicken fried steak that is heavenly. [16 Dec 2006 19:00:51]

Nothin' to complain about here! I stayed at the "Bear" and ate at the restaurant during the Ft. Stanton Days celebration. Closer than going into Ruidoso and quite frankly I can't stand the traffic there or the prices. We have stayed there in the past and everytime we stay there things are fine. Been staying there every year for the past 5 years and we have noticed that it has improved quite a lot but it has never been what I would call bad. My favorite dish now is the Southwestern chicken-fried steak like the person above. After the heat and all of the hoopla at Ft. Stanton I was very glad to get back to my room, clean up and hit the restaurant. I wasn't dissapointed. Got there around lunch time, it was quite busy but the food came out faster than the place across the street where we ate the first night. I almost got up and left but they finally got it out. The cost and quality compared to Smokey Bear Restaurant was almost laughable. I won't mention the name of that restaurant because I consider it in bad taste to do that in public but I won't eat there again. Its the "Bear" for us! [19 Aug 2007 11:08:37]
