A place to avoid This place must rely strictly on tourist trade and non-return customers.
It took us an hour to get served, and out of 3 different dinners we ordered, I found nothing that tasted even remotely decent. The red sauce, the beans, even the chips were lousy.
I complained to the cashier and got a "so what" response. We will never eat there again and will discourage others.
An all around very poor dining experience. [06 Jul 2002 16:50:09]

Quite nice New Mexican food My wife and I were at this restaurant on July 7. The place was as expected packed being lunch time and Sunday when many town restaurants were closed. After a 20 minute wait we were seated and ordered. The lunch crunch forced us to wait a bit before being served, but it was ultimately worth it. We were quite pleasantly surprised by one dish in particular, the chile rellenos. We found the wait staff helpful and courteous even though they were at their busiest. [29 Aug 2002 16:53:38]

STAY AWAY! The worst food possible! This was by fat the worse dining experience of my entire life. The enchiladas were bland, the sauce was terrible, the sandwiches are dull, nothing at all was good. The service was terrible, and the attitude of the entire staff was sickening. [05 Nov 2003 19:13:03]

If you like grease and cheese, this is yours All I saw on my plate was grease and cheese. I was hoping I'd find a meal underneath, but no such luck. A second visit confirmed my initial impression. You can eat at SO many other good places -why go here? [12 Feb 2004 20:58:54]

Disappointed! We were passing through Carlsbad and stopped in. The service was slow. The food (enchiladas) were tasteless and greasy. The chips were also cold and stale. Staff was rude! How does this place stay in business? [10 Jun 2004 21:35:21]

Good Food!! I have been eating at this restaurant for many years! I have never had any problems with the food or the staff. I love eating here. I like it much better than Lucy's. That food is tasteless. [04 Jan 2007 17:22:19]

MO Yum, yum, yummy! I've had Mexican food everywhere there is to have Mexican food, even at home- we're Mexican! This place even beats mom's! No frilly salad or wimpy mild sauces covering the whole plate. Good Mexican food is cheesy and rich and yes, a little greasy. I'm going to have to suggest Taco Bell to anyone who doesn't like the Cortez! [18 Apr 2007 08:58:30]
