In Question
The food here was okay. The restaurant was dirty and messy. The restrooms don't even work. It should be a health violation and she should be closed.    [31 Jan 2004 20:08:08]

Not bad, but not the best
The town goes crazy over this place only because they serve alcohol. The food is good, but not great. The beans are not re-fried, they are whole. The rice is watery. The main dishes are OK.    [12 Feb 2004 21:19:11]

Great Out of the Way Place to Eat!
I found Lucy's to be quaint and really good food. For a hole in the wall that's been in business for 31 yrs., the food was really great. Come to California and have Mexican not the same.    [22 Jun 2004 18:46:42]

I wish it wasn't so far away!!!
It absolutely boggles my mind to read the negative reviews on this restaurant. My girlfriend and I were traveling from Louisiana to California via Six Flags, Carlsbad Caverns, Show Low, Sedona, and Lake Havasu. We asked the desk clerk at the Motel 6 where the best Mexican restaurant was in town. She gave us directions to Lucy's. The place was nice, although nowhere near five star. (Neither are their very reasonable prices!) The restrooms were okay, neither great nor bad, the service was great, not excellent, and the food... ohhhh that food... it beat every Mexican restaurant that I've ever eaten, including Poncho's and Monterey House in Oklahoma City. There is one thing that I absolutely hate about Lucy's, it's nowhere near my current location in Vegas. Once I have my pilot's license and a plane, I will one day fly to Carlsbad for no other reason than to eat at Lucy's. I pray that I can one day find a restaurant in Vegas that has food like theirs!    [30 Nov 2004 16:51:11]

Soft Chimichanga Heaven
I used to live in Carlsbad, NM 10 years ago, and I would go every week to eat the Soft Chimichanga. Some weeks the "hot" chili was TOO hot, so had to scale back to the "medium".

Now, when I travel back to visit family I make it a point to eat a Soft Chimichanga while I am there - and take one for the road. These things will just melt in your mouth!!!!!!!!

It is not the cleanest looking place, but I think the food is pretty darn good!!! It beats any Mexican food restaurant in Albuquerque, NM!!!!!    [01 Aug 2005 17:31:38]

We are coming from Missouri
My husband and I ate green chile enchiladas at Lucy's eight years ago and have dreamed of going back ever since then! They are really the best in the world! We will be coming to Lucy's in Sept. and can't wait. I don't care what the restaurant looks like, the food is out of this world.    [13 Aug 2006 21:21:26]

HEALTH INSPECTOR WHERE ARE YOU???
Could be a great restaurant, IF SOMEONE WOULD CLEAN IT UP!!! Food was OK, but not compared to 10 yrs. ago when Lucy actually cared about customers. We know they've opened restaurants elsewhere, but don't forget the Carlsbad residents that were loyal to you! The place has gone downhill and I lose my appetite when I walk inside. PLEASE CLEAN UP. (That includes the restrooms...when they work.)    [04 Feb 2007 18:32:14]

BEST EVER MARGARITAS
My husband and I ate here 7 years ago. It is true, it was not spotless as far as clean. The food was good, but the best was their Margaritas. I wrote to them twice after I returned home for a recipe. Unfortunately, they never bothered to respond and thank me for my interest.
Reasonably priced.    [07 Feb 2007 13:08:28]

FILTHY!!
I live in Carlsbad and strongly advise everyone to AVOID THIS HOLE! It is FILTHY, the food is mediocre, service sucks and the crowd is mostly drunken ignorant rednecks. Read the health inspection report in the local paper (Carlsbad Current Argus) and you'll never set foot in here. No disrespect intended to those who wrote glowing reviews for Lucy's, but you are all misguided and don't know Mexican food or care about cleanliness. AVOID LUCY'S, it is TERRIBLE!!!    [20 Mar 2008 09:56:54]
