Get there fast before they close It seems they are only open about 20 minutes a day, and closed on weekends. Great food, but an odd vinegar-based BBQ sauce. Good sides. [12 Feb 2004 21:25:44]

Best BBQ in the WORLD I have been a patron of The Red Chimney since I was a baby and wouldn't trade it for the world. I no longer live in Carlsbad, but every time I visit, I go to The Red Chimney first!!!! Their sauce is the most original and flavorful sauce I have ever tasted and I have been all over the US from California to New Jersey and from Idaho to Florida. [18 Feb 2005 21:11:49]

Great Food, Terrible Service The food is so good. I love their sauce, and their fried okra is the best. If the waiters will pay attention to you, you will be seated, but be ready to wait about 20 minutes before somebody acknowledges your presence. [16 Sep 2005 11:38:58]

BEST EVER ANYWHERE! I lived in C-bad for 4 years and loved the place, and now anytime I am in Carlsbad I HAVE to eat there! It's just SOOOO GOOD. The food is fresh, and anything you try, you will be satisfied. You get a HUGE plate of food! [11 May 2007 15:58:39]

Over rated!! This place is absolutely worshipped in Carlsbad. I have lived here all of my life and cannot recommend The Red Chimney for any reason at all EXCEPT they serve beer. The place is noisy, the tables are covered with plastic and are ALWAYS sticky, the food comes out lukewarm at best and the barbecue sauce tastes like mustard. Unfortunately this place has steadily gone downhill for the last several years. AND they aren't open on the weekends!! What the hell is up with that!? [20 Mar 2008 10:05:27]
