Great Food and Service We send all of our visitors to Casa Vieja. They always talk about how good the food and service was. We also go to Casa Vieja and feel the same. [27 Oct 2003 21:34:01]

Simply Wonderful, Wonderfully Simple Take a 300-year-old, sprawling adobe hacienda, fill it with candlelight, fine food and excellent service, and you have Casa Vieja, a magical place. [02 Jan 2004 22:18:45]

Keeps Getting Better We are from upstate New York and were visiting friends who told us to eat here. Food and service was excellent. Chef White was not in but the new Sous Chef Jeff Trent came out and talked to us. He made us feel at home. Great job. [13 Jun 2005 06:07:32]

Went on a Thursday evening, 8:45-ish, late yes, but still paying customers.
The restaurant is in Corrales, yet no Corrales Wines served. Crab cakes were good and that's about it. For the price, the food was terrible. My boyfriend ordered mussels which on the menu stated, "served on a bed of pasta". It was basically a bowl with mussels and some boiled penne thrown on top - no sauce. Several times he got a mouthful of broken shell and there were many closed mussels as well. My beef was mediocre, definitely not worth $29.
Wait staff was in jeans and polo tees - not what I would have expected. No table cloths, candles on the tables etc. The other wait staff proceed to do their closing work around us very noisily. We were seated next to a fireplace, which would have been nice if there were actually a fire going. The music playing was some strange 60's oldies. Spent almost $100 on so-so food and no ambiance. Will never go back. [19 Apr 2006 15:13:00]

More Recognition for the New Chefs of Casa Vieja I've recently dined at Casa Vieja and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent! Although I think the servers should spruce up their uniforms a bit. Other than that, the new owners have done well with selecting their chefs. Jeff Trent is the Executive chef, and Justin Reed has recently been named the new Sous chef (taking over for Jim Wilson, respectively). They put out wonderful dishes that are not only pleasing to the eye, but delicious in every other sense. [18 Jul 2006 12:22:47]

Bad Food, Bad Prices, Bad Ambiance, and Bad Service Had the beef and it was dry. Not worth the price. Reeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllyyyyyy slow service. Overpriced menu all the way around. Was told that it was owned by Jim White. On line site implies that he still owns it. This is not the case. Bad experience. [31 Aug 2006 20:14:04]

Overpriced - Lukewarm Food We arrived at 6:15 p.m., no one in the parking lot. Food was lukewarm. Waiter needs a lot of training. Way overpriced. [26 Nov 2006 17:49:56]

I have had some good meals at Casa Vieja, but not recently. Overpriced, and I had perhaps one of the poorest quality pasta dishes I've ever eaten in a restaurant. It had no flavor, vegetables not cooked. Too bad, but we will not go back. [09 Dec 2006 02:04:55]

Bum Deal at Casa Vieja Christmas eve dinner hosted by my aunt: 8 folks, service was pretty good. Everyone ordered the "fixed price" 5? course prime rib, $48/seat. 6 ordered medium rare, 2 ordered rare. Started with duck pate, I thought pretty good but looked raw. Maybe that's OK, as I'm not a pate connoisseur. Salad was a small handful of "deluxe" greens, unremarkable. The real disappointment was with the prime rib. Everyone got a medium to well-done piece. This meat should not have been brought out in that condition; they should have said that the meat was just too well done, but apparently they really wanted to sell their prix fixe dinner. We all grumbled, but didn't make a huge stink (we were celebrating Xmas Eve, and most decided to overlook this blatant ripoff). My uncle couldn't handle it and sent it back - they gave him a New York, I think, that was correctly done - but didn't cut the price for him or any of the rest of us. While we all indicated the overdone meat was not what we had ordered, the staff/manager apparently didn't feel we screamed loud enough. Like I said, it was Xmas Eve and for most of us the food was secondary and didn't want to get upset over it. Any other time I'd have walked out.
We are lifelong Corrales residents, not the hoity-toity crowd, but we expected better.
The crappy meal ended with a shot glass of frozen lime ice - the frozen lime bars for 75 cents from a street vendor are comparable (except you get more at the street vendor!). All in all, my aunt paid about $900 bucks (including wine and she's a good tipper as she knows the waitress didn't make the decision here) for an unacceptable meal. [15 Jan 2007 22:45:46]

Another Corrales Place Goes to the Dogs... I've lived in Corrales forever, but, where have all the good restaurants gone? Ranchos is just a memory and Casa Vieja has gone down the tubes with the new ownership.
I've eaten here twice in the past year and won't be back. [12 Mar 2007 16:55:30]
