Great Food Stopped by on 6/4/03 after visiting the VLA. Was recommended by an instructor at NMT, Socorro. The food was great. The service was top notch. [07 Jun 2003 20:46:39]

Stayed a couple days here while looking for property. Best motel around and best food too. I'd stay there again. [19 Jan 2005 10:21:23]

Nice bit of local culture If you are going to see the Very Large Array (which you should), or are using Hwy 60 to cross New Mexico, you should make a stop at the Eagle Guest Ranch restaurant. The steaks here are the thing to get (although the country fried steak is pretty good) -- the meat is so fresh it moos -- check out the meat counter in the adjacent grocery. Vegetarian? That's a problem unless you hit the once-a-week Mexican night -- ask them to make you a "Jacqueline Van Gorkom special" -- a cheese sandwich with green chile (although for a rural restaurant in the desert they have a pretty good salad bar). The "steak sandwich" is a reasonable size steak (all the others are big enough to spill over the the large oval plates) on top of toast which nicely soaks up the juice.
Placemats made of bluejean-backends, Ball-jar water glasses, nicely rustic bathrooms, a large fireplace and hunting trophies all have an authenticity that big city restaurants would kill for.
If you are arriving within an hour of closing, I'd call ahead so they know you are coming. [05 Oct 2006 12:40:02]
