The best local Mexican Food They make their own tortillas and serve a baked potato slathered in butter with practically every entree. Skip the refried beans for the homemade Chihuahua's beans. All that would probably be enough to make it a great place to eat, but they also have a salsa/condiment station to die for. Four different homemade chile sauces, pico de gallo and several homemade salsas on ice with diced onion, cilantro and the usual lettuce and cucumber. The dining area is not plush, but clean and spacious. You order at the counter and help yourself to the condiments. [26 Aug 2005 10:21:39]

Good Many places advertise themselves as serving "authentic" Mexican food. Most in this locale are a combination of New Mexican/Mexican. Chihuahua's is pretty much the real deal authentic Mexican. Menudo, home made corn and flour tortillas, lack of red and green chile sauces etc.-- it's all here. Order at the counter and pick up your tray. Thus, no chips and salsa. The lady at the counter was helpful, patient, and friendly. Tables are plentiful and booths line the walls. One is not crowded here, plenty of room. The restaurant appears clean and is bright inside. The chile rellenos were served on a skillet with rice and beans; I did not think they were that good. They had a good bit of cheese inside, but seemed overly mushy and did not have a robust taste. No red or green chile served with them: true Mexican style. The salsa bar is OK, but doesn't compare with Andele's. The gordita was made in a large --and I do mean large-- tortilla-like shell. It was easily three times the size of the usual gordita. It was lightly fried on a griddle. It tasted much like a pancake. Not your usual Southwestern gordita. Not sure how much I liked the shell; however, the filing was delicious... one of the best gorditas I have ever had. I added some salsas to it as I ate. Muy sobrosa! I believe that Chihuahua's is the best "authentic" Mexican restaurant in Las Cruces... but I still believe the New Mexican style is superior eating. Nonetheless, I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant, especially if you want to remain close to real Mexican cooking. [23 Feb 2006 17:35:09]

Best of LC Chihuahua's is one of those totally unassuming restaurants that makes you feel like you walked into someone's kitchen. The staff are all friendly, the homemade tortillas and salsas delicious (especially the cito salsa - amazing!), and the food is authentic. We frequent Chihuahua's on Saturday mornings, and I can't resist a bean & cheese burrito or chicken and cheese quesadilla for breakfast! [26 Oct 2006 13:07:15]
