Top Notch Mexican Restaurant Chilito's on Valley is basically the same restaurant as the one on Foothills...it is just a little older. The restaurant is perhaps larger than the one on Foothills, with many comfortable chairs and booths. It is clean and well-lit. Service is very good. When we entered it was just starting to get busy at lunchtime. By the time we finished and left the restaurant was packed and not a place to be found in the parking lot. People know where the "good stuff" is to be found. The food is terrific as in the other cafe. Today the chile relleno burrito (smothered) was the usual delicious. The green chile cheeseburger is in my opinion the "best" in Las Cruces. It came on a sesame seed bun with a large and very tasty beef patty. Chopped lettuce, onion, tomato were on the side so you can dress it up as you wish. Mayonnaise and mustard were also served. I opted for the mayo. The burger was just plain terrific...spicy with the best green chile in Las Cruces! It is better than Burger Nook, better than Dick's, better than the Organ Mountain Cafe, and better than Abraham's among others (and those burgers are all very good). Accompanying the burger was a huge portion of french fries...with a spiciness that made them irresistable. A terrific meal. Prices are not cheap, but well worth it. Alas, I could not finish all the fries. The portion was equivalent to probably four or five servings at McDonalds or Wendy's...and, of course, the fries were far superior. [29 Feb 2008 20:05:03]
