A unique treasure tucked away in a shopping center...will make you feel like you are dining in New York City or London, (as long as you are not facing the window).    [16 May 2002 18:13:30]

Nice place...disappointing food
International Delights Cafe is a nice place to eat... indoors or out. Order at the up-front counter and they bring the food to your table. No waitress, no tipping. Especially enjoyed the outdoor patio with fountain. Prices are good also. The problem is the food; I had their gyro and it was mediocre at best. It wasn't horrible, but it was the worst gyro I have ever eaten. Here's why: The pita bread was under cooked and doughy. Not at all tasty. The sauce had no dill or Greek seasoning in it-- it was so bland it was incredible. The gyro also had no onion in it. The only thing good about it was the meat, which was flavored nicely. The restaurant needs to sample some of the real Greek cooking around the country to find out how its done!
I really liked the place, but I don't know if I'll return based on the food I tried.    [29 Dec 2005 22:31:24]

Wonderful Lamb Couscous
I drive to Las Cruces every few weeks on Friday for the lamb couscous (Friday special), a wonderful tender-juicy braised lamb shank on a bed of couscous with aromatic sauce and vegetables. This is a delicious dish that I happily drive a hundred miles for (and would drive further if I had to). The other dishes I have had there have been delicious too. Highly recommended.    [19 Jul 2006 23:26:05]

Two Years Later and No Better!!
I returned to the International Delights Cafe after more than two years as I was interested to see if they have improved their food. The short answer is "no." The cafe itself is fairly nice. It is bright, clean, and attractive. It is very quiet inside and everyone in the room I was eating in was working on a laptop or doing something on a cell phone. It seems to be that kind of place where the "preoccupied" are more interested in their preoccupation than in enjoying a good meal! Or, so it seemed. Service at the counter was efficient and pleasant. A gentleman delivered our meals in a timely fashion. No complaints here. Prices were good. The place seems to attract a certain type that is more interested in their specialty drinks (lattes, chai, white mocas, Italian sodas, moca frappe etc) than in really good food. The food remains the main problem. I reordered a gyro plate with some falafel on the side. Instead of the anticipated gyro sandwich we were given a few slices of gyro meat and some small warmed pita slices in a basket. A little bit of lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a couple olives came as a salad. No dressing. You were expected to place the meat slices on a piece of pita bread and eat it like that. The salad was ridiculous. The falafel was fried and pretty hard around the outside. The taste was ok, as far as I was concerned. My companion did not eat much of his and did not care for it. It was surely nothing to write home about! The salad and the gyro are a pale imitation of Tiffany's...the real stuff! But, this place is quiet and more suited to those who want to spend time cuddling up with their laptops while slurping a smoothie. I was thinking that a three for the food would be a more accurate rating, but alas, I think I will leave it at a two. It was not bad food, but somewhat disappointing.
