Good Service, Good Prices, Mediocre Food I have noticed that the Sonic Drive-Ins around Las Cruces are constantly busy. The masses seem to love them. So, I decided to try one out to gain the full-Sonic experience. Every car parking space has an ordering board with a voice phone to order and a credit/debit card machine built in. It all works quite well as you order from your car window. Our food was prepared quickly and a young girl roller-skated our order out within a few minutes. On two other occasions a young person skated by the car with a case of condiments, napkins, etc and asked if we needed anything else. All-in-all, quite remarkable service. The food was piping hot....the chile cheese dog so hot I had to let it cool for a few minutes before I could eat it. Alas, although the prices were very reasonable, the quality of the food was very average...nothing to write home about or go out of your way for. The sauce on the foot long dog was far from the best and it was covered with melted cheesewiz or some such product...very blah in taste. Rate the dog a B- or a C+. The onion rings were OK (not greasy) but lacked seasoning in the batter. Rate them a B. The banana milkshake was OK, but lacked a real banana flavor (priced right at $2.60 however). Rate it a B-. The fries were crispy and not bad...rate them a B. The burgers were somewhat tasteless. Rate them a C+. I kind of liked the place for a quick meal in the car, but I probably will not be a regular visitor here. The food is just too blah! [09 Jun 2009 18:16:30]
