Tasty!!!
I ate the tacos and the Mexican omelette. They were very delicious. I eat there every chance I have. The service was good. It's a very clean restaurant and it's not so very crowded that you can't hear the people at your table talking. There is no other restaurant like this one.    [16 Sep 2002 12:08:04]

Old Road House
I went to Henry's restaurant, Old Road House, at Mescalero with Dave Rimple (aka The Indian), oh, I guess that was in 1999. It was alright, I had the enchiladas. I'd never had one that wasn't rolled up before. It was a little disconcerting...It was pretty good though. I hear it is a standard way of making enchilada in New Mexico.
Hey Henry! How 'bout you try making them the way we do, take a tortilla, fill it up with cheese, chicken, steak, whatever you like, smothering them with sauce, drizzling a bit more cheese on top, and baking them at 350? Doesn't take any longer, it might be more time efficient, since you can toss a few pans in at a time, then microwave them at will.
Love ya!
Luz Rimple, ex wife of Dave Rimple '68 -'79. Our son, Cheyenne got married not too long ago to a really sweet girl named Yolanda, in El Paso, we had been hoping you would come down. We missed you!

Very, very good.
Went to the Old Road House with my mom and one of her co-workers. I didn't try any of the chile, but my mom and her co-worker did; both found the salsa excellent, though it did look a bit watery; perhaps this is part of it's charm, since it's obviously a house recipe. The guacamole was good, except I found it a bit spicy (my mom said this was from the onions; I don't really think so, though). The enchiladas were excellent; I had a chicken sour cream enchilada, no beans or chile. It was fantastic, I enjoyed it immensely. The house is very beautiful, and the view from the back room is great. There is also a museum underneath the restaurant itself, but I didn't get a chance to look at it. I found it to be a very pleasant dining experience, though, and fully recommend it to all.    [16 Aug 2003 19:58:34]

Comfort NM food
I have eaten at Old Road for my entire life! My aunt lives less than a mile down the road, and it is one of my favorite past times. The salsa is my favorite, and the occasion to spot a turkey. Even though I don't live in Mescalero anymore, Old Road is the first place I like to visit.    [26 Nov 2005 14:17:17]

Very, Very Excellent Food
I have always been eating at Old Road in Mescalero, N.M. ever since I was a little girl. The food is excellent; I always enjoy the taco plate with beans and rice. If you are in the mood for hamburgers, they serve up some good burgers and fries. The next time you are in town stop by and try it out. Also stop by the new “Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino.”    [28 Feb 2006 21:15:46]

Wonderful Huevos Rancheros
Old Road has the most delicious southern New Mexico style red chile, brilliant vermillion in color with a wonderful peppery and garlicky taste and a nice heat. I like my huevos sunny side up, so that I can break the yolks and let the eggyolk run into the chile: beautiful to see and absolutely delicious to taste. Corn tortillas lie underneath the eggs and chile and a little cheese is shredded on top. The eggs share the plate with the Old Road's frijoles refritos which are the best I have ever tasted.    [20 Jul 2006 01:24:38]

Driving directions from Tularosa
Drive east from Tularosa for about 16 miles. When you drive under the walkover, slow down when you see a deserted gas station on the left. Turn left across the cattle guard, the restaurant is on the left just down the road.    [04 Jan 2007 03:55:46]

Great Tasting Mexican Food
My favorite thing about the Old Road Inn is that their food doesn't seem greasy. Their Beef Fajitas are very good. If you order the Fajitas, ask the waitress for a hot stack of corn tortillas. Their refried beans are also good.

The Combination Plate is a popular seller. It comes with a large Chile Relleno and includes two enchiladas, one beef and one chicken. One enchilada is covered with green sauce the other with red. Rice and beans are included.

We order a side of beans and a side of guacamole to bring out early. We use the beans, guacamole and salsa for a dip till our meal arrives.    [04 Jan 2007 04:33:26]
